Review of The Carolina Opry from a Myrtle Beach local

By Patricia Blackstock

My name is Patricia Blackstock, and my husband is Wally Snider. We have been living in Myrtle Beach since 1997. I am owner and webmaster of Fun

We enjoyed The Carolina Opry with our son Mkike, daughter-in-law Amy and grandson Kenan who turned 6 in June.

Calvin Gilmore Theatre, Myrtle Beach Performing Arts Series

This was our first visit to The Carolina Opry soince Christmas. While we look forward to the many beloved performers we've seen in the past, we also love the new performances that have been added. Take a look at The Carolina Opry 2018 season pricing which provides information about the various shows. Excellent view of the stage and performers. This show has something for everyone, as evidenced in our family group - grandparents, grown children and our grandson. There truly is something for every one of your family members. Age makes o difference.

Since this wasthe first live entertainment show Kenan had ever seen, we expected him to be bored with some parts of the performance. In truth, he was not bored at all. In spite of a few attention gaps, he was very involved with what was happening on the stage. He did not understand all the jokes, but he laughed at the performers along eith us and did not figit! Sometimes he would just point and giggle, then look to see if we got the joke too! Whether we did or not made no difference since he was enjoying himself.

I told him in advance that "Let it Go" from Disney's 'Frozen' would be performed. Having seen the movie, he looked forward to it, and knew immediately when the music started. His suggestion to The Carolina Opry that "starting tomorrow" they should have songs and scenes from the movie in the background. (Don't bother trying to explain copywrite laws to a six year old. It will get you nowhere!) This perforance is extraordinary.

Kenan's favorite act was "All That" the award-winning clogging group. featured twice on "America's Got Talent." The next day Kenan was "clogging" on the kitchen tiles saying "Look at me! Look at me!"

Whether as a group or as individuals, The Carolina Opry is awesome! Not only are are cast members accomplished musicians in their own field, you can sese they put their heart and soul into each performance. They want their audience to be involved - and we were!

I have also reviewed Carolina Opry's Christmas Show as well as Good Vibrations (60s, 70s and 80s music.) Both shows should be on your "to-do: list. Nothing will put you in the mood for the holidays like the Christmas Show.
