We enjoyed the Carolina Opry with grown son Mike, daughter-in-law Amy, and grandson Kenan who turned 6 in June.
Calvin Gilmore Theatre, Myrtle Beach Performing Arts Series
This was our first return to the Carolina Opry since last Christmas. While we looked forward to the many performers we've seen and loved in the past we also enjoyed the new performances that have been added. Take a look at The Carolina Opry season pricing which provides information about the various shows. Excellent view of the stage and performers. This show has something for everyone, as evidenced in our family group - grandparents, a grown son, daughter-in-law, and the grandson
Since this was the first live stage presentation Kenan had ever seen, we expected him to be bored with some part of the performance.. In truth, he was no bored at all. In spite of a few attention gaps, he was very involved in what was happening on the stage. He did not understand all the jokes, but he laughed at the performers along with us and did not fidget! Sometimes he would just point and giggle, then look to see if we got the joke too! Whether we did not not made no difference to him since he was enjoying himself.
I told him in advance that "Let it Go" from Disney's 'Frozen' would be performed. Having seen the movie, he looked forward to it and started to smile when the familiar music began. His suggestion to The Carolina Opry is that "starting tomorrow" they should have songs and a scene from the movie in the background. (Don't bother trying to explain copyright laws to a 6-year old. It will get you nowhere) This performance is extraordinary.
Kenan's favorite was "All That" the award winning cloggin group featured twice on "America's Got Talent." The next day Kenan was "clogging" on the kitchen tiles saying "Look at me! Look at me!"
Whether as a group or as individual performers, The Carolina Opry is awesome!! Not only are are cast members accomplished musicians in their own field, you can sese they put their heart and soul into every performance. They want their audience to be totally involved, and we were.
I also reviewed Carolina Opry's Christmas Show as well as Good Vibrations, (60s, 70s and 80s music.) Both shows should be on your "to do" list. And nothing will put you in the mood for the Holidays than the Christmas Show.
