Market Watch, The Wall Street Journal. 1/11/2014: "If the retired folks in South Carolina seem relaxed, oit may be that they're enjoying more low-key lifestyle, and less congestion than they would find further south among their brethren in Florida. A growing number of people have been flocking to the South Carolina for its mild winters and slower pace. The state still remains an “undiscovered gem,” says Laura Scharr-Bykowsky, a principal at Ascend Financial Planning in SC. What's more, S.C. offers lower taxes."

Tax Friendly Myrtle Beach - True Southern Living...

Kiplinger lists S.C. as lone of the top tax-friendly states for retirees:

Retire to Myrtle Beach: Kiplinger magazine has listed Myrtle Beach in the top 10 most tax-friendly states for retirees in the 2016 publication.

“The state tax does not tax social security, and it provides a generous retirement income deduction when calculating income tax. State Tax is reasonable and property taxes are low. Taxes are based on 4% of the market value of the home, nnd seniors qualify for a homestead exemption, Kiplinger said in summarizing South Carolina policies for people 65 (and up) years of age.

Some other points from Kiplinger:
People 65 and over may deduct $10,000 in qualifying retirement income including public employee retirement plans as well as Keogh plans, IRA distribution and retirement.

People 65 and older can take a deduction of  $15,000, for single filers, or $30,000, for married coules filing jointly. However, the $15,000 deduction must be offset by the amount taken by the retirement-income reduction. Retired Military age 65+ can deduct $10,000 of military benefits.

SouthCarolina Retirement - Tax Friendly...

South Carolina does not tax Social Security retirement benefits and has a $15,000 deduction for seniors receiving any other type of retirement income. The state ha some of the lowest property taxes in the country. This calculator reflects the changes under the 1018 Trump Tax Plan.

Vehicles with valud handicapped identification or hand tags as well as vehicles with valid Purple Heart, Disabled American Veterans (DAV) or Medal of Honor license plates may park free at the city's parking meters . The parking meter season is March 1 through October 31.

Mar 25, 2017 Some southern coastal growth slows, but not Myrtle Beach. The rush of new residents moving to the S.C. coast eased last year in the Charleston County, Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach.
