 8/27/18 Property taxes can be complicated, Here’s what S.C. homeowners and buyers need to know for 2018. Read this news article from the Post and Courier all about property tax.

Excellent health care, as many hospitals are located near the airport, as well as thousands of restaurants (yes, really) 100 golf courses (many open year-round) home options that apply to those in financial need. Lots of activities especially for the 55+ age group fishing piers, marinas, live entertainment theaters with top-notch fantastic shopping opportunities, the sparkling Atlantic Ocean weather temperate and warm all year round.

Market Watch, The Wall Street Journal. 1/11/2014: "If the retired folks in South Carolina seem relaxed, it may be because they're enjoying more low-key lifestyle, and less congestion than they would further south among their brethren in Florida. A growing number of people have been flocking to the South Carolina for its mild winters and slower pace. The state still remains an “undiscovered gem,” says Laura Scharr-Bykowsky, a principal at Ascend Financial planning in Columbia, SC. What's more, S.C. offers low taxes."

Tax Friendly Myrtle Beach - True Southern Living...

Kiplinger lists S.C.as one of the top tax-friendly states for retirees:

Retire to Myrtle Beach: Kiplinger magazine has listed Myrtle Beach in the top 10 most tax-friendly states for retirees in the 2016 publication.

“The state tax does not tax social security, and it provides a generous retirement income deduction when calculating income tax. State Tax is reasonable and property taxes are low. Taxes are based on 4% of the market value of the gome, and seniors qualify for a homestead exemption,  Kiplinger said in summarizing South Carolina policies for people age 65 (and up) years of age.

Some other points included by Kiplinger:
People 65 and over may deduct $10,000 in qualifying retirement income including public employee retirement plans as well as Keogh plans, IRA distribution and retirement.

People 65 and older can take a senior deduction of  $15,000, for single filers, or $30,000, for married coples filing jointly. However, the $15,000 deduction must be offset by the amount taken by the retirement-income reduction. Retired Military 65 and older can deduct $10,000 of military benefits.

South Carolina Retirement Tax Friendly...

South Carolina does not tax Social Security retirement benefits and has a $15,000 deduction for seniors receiving any other type of retirement income. The state has some of the lowest property taxes in the country. This calculator reflects the changesunder the 1018 Trump Tax Plan.

Mar 25, 2017 Some South Carolina coastal growth slows, but not Myrtle Beach. The rush of new residents moving to the S.C. coast eased last year in the Charleston County, Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach. However, this new census shows that Myrtle Beach was again the nation's second-fastest growing metropolitan area,with a population increase of 3.9 percent during the year ending July 1. The Charleston/Hilton Head/Beaufort areas did not make the top 20 growth list, for the first time in several years. The Post and Courier
