In 2009, authors David and Joan Vokac included Myrtle Beach in their book that highlights the top 100 Great Towns of America. In fact, Myrtle Beach is the only locale in the state of South Carolina to be included in the book.

Tripadvisor.com travel enthusiasts named Ripley’s Aquarium in Myrtle Beach, SC to the site’s Top Aquariums list, ranking the aquarium in the top five.
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF GOLF COURSE OWNERS (2009)
Grande Dunes Resort Club was selected as the 2009 National Golf Course of the Year. Presented annually by the National Golf Course Owners Association (NGCOA), Grande Dunes is the second Myrtle Beach area course to receive the national honor.

The Myrtle Beach area was again named a “Favorite Beach” and a “Favorite Destination for Family Vacations” in the January 2009 issue of Southern Living. The Grand Strand has topped the magazine’s best beaches list every year since 1995, when the Readers’ Choice Awards were first instituted.

Travel and Leisure editors named the Myrtle Beach Marriot Resort and Spa at Grande Dunes to their 2009 rankings of the Top 500 World’s Best Hotels.

A recent survey of more than 2,200 travelers ranked Myrtle Beach #2 of a list of Top 10 Beaches, ahead of Waikiki and St. Thomas . Results of the survey and video highlights are posted on the Yahoo! Web site and were published in National Geographic Traveler. The qualities most important to beachgoers were cleanliness, scenery, climate, water temperature, and romance, in that order.

May 18, 2006 announced its ranking of "America's Greatest Golf-Home Towns" and Myrtle Beach was selected as America's No. 1 golf-home community. The June issue stated that "the Grand Strand is literally jammed with great courses. Seven made Golf Digest's Best in State ranking and an incredible 28 carry player ratings of 4 stars or more in the 2006 Best Places to Play guide. This, plus the area's reasonable cost of living and its many playable days, gave Myrtle Beach the highest point total of all the communities we rated nationwide."

named the Myrtle Beach area one of the 100 Best Retirement Towns in America. Editors traveled to all 50 states to compile the list. The magazine cites the Myrtle Beach area for its low cost of living and calls it one of the best beach towns in the nation. The Myrtle Beach area was named one of the nation’s top vacation spots for retired Americans age 55 and older, according to a study by tourism researchers D.K. Shifflet & Associates. The company also ranked the Myrtle Beach area No. 5 in the nation for leisure destinations.
