Tips for dog parents....
With temperatures in the 80s and 90s here in the summer, your best friend can easily become dehydrated. Keep a bottle of cool water handy! This is especially true when you take your dog to one of the local dog parks. Although the dog parks are shaded in places, it is important that you and your dog rest in the shadr after romping around the dog park. Also, there are special sunscreen made for your dog.
for dogs. Put ice cubes in your dog's water dish and encourage him/her to stretch out on the cool tiles. Take your dog to any of the dog friendly restaurants listed above.
Dog Beach Policies, Laws, Rules and Restrictions
Just a reminder....seasonal rules are in effect for dogs and bicycles on the beach and boardwalk. From May 1 through Labor Day, dogs are allowed on the beach only before 10:00 a.m. and after 5:00 p.m. At all times, pets must be on a leash of seven feet or shorter, and owners must pick up and properly dispose of any droppings. Bicycles also must observe the “before 10:00 a.m. and after 5:00 p.m.” rule for the beach. However, on the Boardwalk, pets and bicycles are allowed only in the mornings, from 5:00 to 10:00 a.m.during May - Labor Day window. Dogs must be leashed and droppings properly removed.
The city of Myrtle Beach has done away with the law allowing pet owners to have a license for dogs and cats. The animal license fee was regarded as unnecessary. Pets still must show proof of rabies vaccination and are required to wear a collar with proper identification.
Owners are responsible for removing pet waster from beaches and other public property. Horry County laws:
Dogs in public must be on a leash. Dogs are allowed on the beach only before 10 a.m.and after 5 pm every day through Labor Day.
Dog Waste Bags...The city of Myrtle Beach buys approximately 60,000 dog waste bags every year and stocks them in our free dispensers at city parks. The doggie waste bags are available free at the two off-leash Barc Parcs, as well as at Grand Park and other outdoor locations. Pet owners are required to pick up after their pets and properly dispose of the droppings! We make that as easy as possible by providing free bags for this purpose.
Boardwalk Beach Ploicies and Rules for Dogs
From the day after Labor Day until May 1, dogs are allowed on the Boardwalk at all times, but they must be on a leash and you must pick up after them. From Msy through Labor Day dogs are allowed on the boardwalk only between 5:00 and 10:00 a.m. (Note that the doggie water fountains are NOT foot washes. (Separate human foot washers are provided at other locations along the Boardwalk and elsewhere.)
Thanks to the City of Myrtle Beach for this information.
Free Dog Parks
Plan to take your dog to the local dog parks.
They are all FREE except Surfside Beach (see information below.)
Waggin' Tail Dog Park at the Norch Myrtle Beach Sprots Complex
Barc Park is on Mallard Lake Drive This dog park is located near The Market Common directly behind the Food Lion and flea market. This 11 acre dog park opened in 2000. The fenced-in grounds are separated into a smaller dog area with structures such as hoops, and a larger dog area featuring a lake for doggie aquatics. Shaded areas with picnic tables and benches are welcoming for pet owners. Hours are sunrie to sunset, daily (maintenance is performed a few days each quarter, and dates are posted at the park). Free. For additional info, call 843-918-2390. Update 12/10/16 The park is now open after Hurricane Matthew toppled 30 trees and demolished 300 feet of fence on October 8. The 14-acre park is divided into two sections, one of which includes a large lake. Barc Parc North, a second off-leash area for dogs, is adjacent to the Claire Chapin Epps Family, off 62nd Ave. N. extension. For photos of the Barc Parc South, visit www.cityofmyrtlebeach.com/pow.html
Dog Park in Surfside Beach
Note: The dog park in Surfside Beach is not free, like the other two shown here. The Town of Surfside Beach has expanded and fenced in an existing park behind the library on Surfside Drive. Take you dog to the dog park and see it for yourself. ALL dogs must have and wear current Town of Surfside license tags. Residents and non-residents $10. Tags can be purchased at the Town Hall, 115 US Highway 17 N. 843-913-6111. All p about the dog park is HERE

We stayed in one of your pet friendly hotels and ate at your pet friendly resaurants. Since we did not have internet access, we wrote them down in our travel journal and referred to it every day. Received 8/2/2017 I want to thank you for your dog friendly information about where to stay and where to eat with my pooch. It was very helpful. We especially enjoyed the Market Common shops offer cool water bowls and we ate at Gordon Bierch where the pup got a lot of tail-wagging attention from people passing by.
