We took the mini-train to The Basilique Sacre-Coeur (Basilica of the Sacred Heart) a Roman Catholic church and familiar landmark on Montmarte. The interior of the church contains one of the worlds largest mosaics, and depicts Christ with outstretched arms. No photos are allowed inside, so I scanned this postcard. You'll also find many artists on Montmarte , as shown in the pictures below. This area has always been a draw for artists, dating back to many famous artists such as Salvador Dalí, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso and Vincent van Gogh who worked around the community of Montmartre.
Anyone going to Paris will want to ride the Metro and take a cruise on the Bateaux Mouches In addition to the historic landmarks lining the Seine, travelers can't help but notice the many splendid bridges which span the river (35 in all), some of them several centuries old and designated as Historical Heritage sites in their own right. Ironically, the oldest of these is the Pont-Neuf, whose first stone was laid in 1578. Our boat was equipped with an audio announcement system, synchronized to the boat's movement and providing commentary on the passing sights in several different languages. These tours offer a pleasant and relaxing way to view Paris' most famous landmarks in a single hour.
This was my 5th trip to Paris, but even so, I would have enjoyed more time in this beautiful old city.
