The City of Avignon was the seat of the Popes from 1309 to 1377 where monumental palace still bears witness to their presence. Avignon's completely preserved town wall impresses by its length of more than 3 miles. The city is protected as a UNESCO cultural World Heritge site because of its unique beauty and historic architecture. We enjoyed the history and the extensive shopping in the local market. And as you see below, my sister-in-law Paula helped the local economy by purchasing a painting by a local artist. Unfortunately, we never found the time to ride the lovely carousel.
