Black Friday, 11/27/15

Santa arrives and lights the tree 11/21/2015

11/8/2015  -  the 17th Souper Supper in Valor Park at The Market Common represented the best soups from 40+ chefs and local Myrtle Beach restaurants. Vote for your favorite, and each year chefs come up with their own variety of  classic soups. But it rained all day, and there was only one tent to protect you. The large white tent was meant to be a serving area for the many restaurants participating in this project, but the more it rained and more people found their way inside, the tent developed muddy holes in the ground which were not covered. Stepping in them was unavoidable. It only takes one (unintentional) shove  to start you spiraling. It was cold, rainy and wet with so many people trying to get near the restaurant areas, and so many people searching to find a spot to stand and eat. This is usually a wonderful yearly event, and the $12. fee which allows you to try unlimited samples. They should have added another large tent to provide cover from the rain for those eating, but apparently that was not in the plans.  My friend and I left the tent and went home, soaked through to the bone. Because of the crowd we could not get close enough to taste many of the samples we wanted to try.  Bottom line: Go if the weather is nice; stay home if it is raining!

The Market Common News and Changes.

New playground coming to The Market Common
Work is well underway on Savannah's Playground at Grand Park after clearing phases were complete in early August. Equipment for the first phase of the fully-accessible playground is being installed now, according to the City of Myrtle Beach. The site is adjacent to Crabtree Memorial Gymnasium, within the Market Common district off of Farrow Parkway. Savannah's Playground, which is referred to as an "enabling park," will include a number of components, such as a music park, swings and a zipline, that will allow children with disabilities to take part. The Myrtle Beach City Government states, "[the park] will provide the safe haven that children with physical and mental disabilities need." Savannah's Playground will be open year-round. The playground is named for 19-year-old Savannah Thompson, who plays soccer and baseball with the Grand Strand Miracle Leagues. Construction of the full 4-acre park will be done in three phases.
