The Market Common News and Changes
7/26/13 Construction crews have broken ground for swimming pools in the Market Common.
It's being built nearby the Barnes and Nobles parking lot. Phase one will include a club house, main pool and kiddie pool. In phase two, a lazy river and a spa will be added. All amenities will be paid for through an association run by The Market Common. The people with homes in The Market Common area built by the developer Dock Street will have access to the pools. Fees paid by the homeowners and renters will cover the cost of maintaining the pool area and club house. Vacationers who stay at the Market Common Suites, and long-term renters will also be eligible for access to the pool area.
7/22/13 Sports competition lures hundreds of teams to Myrtle Beach
Myrtle Beach has added fields near The Market Common and is moving forward with plans to build a 100,000-square-foot indoor sports complex. Some restaurants, stores and attractions near the ball fields at The Market Common or near the Ripken Experience-Myrtle Beach have noticed large teams showing up at their businesses more often and asked the city for a heads up when large sports events aare in town so they can be ready for the rush. In 2012, sports events pumped $132 million in spending into Myrtle Beach’s economy, according to the City of Myrtle Beach. That number is expected to grow this year because of several new fields at Grand Park near The Market Common and more events, Mark Kruea said. In addition to baseball and softball teams, the city regularly hosts competitions for soccer, volleyball, cheerleaders and runners.
