S.C. Golf Course Ratings Panel Names Four and Golfweek Includes Two Founders Courses
May 9, 2017, Myrtle Beach, S.C. - Founders Group International courses are on 2017 lists of South Carolina's top courses available for public play. Golfweek ranks TPC Myrtle Beach 12th and King's North at Myrtle Beach National 13th in the list of 15 South Carolina courses recognized in its prestigious state-by-state rankings. Pine Lakes Country Club is new to the S.C. Golf Course Ratings Panel list, joining Grande Dunes Resort Course, TPC Myrtle Beach and Pawleys PlantationGolf & Country Club.
"It's very gratifying to see our courses ranked among the best year after year, especially since there are more than 350 golf courses throughout South Carolina," said Steve Mays, director of marketing and sales for Founders Group International. TPC Myurtle Beach is the only Myrtle Beach gold course to ever be awared 5 stars by Golf Digest. Ranked among Digest's America's 100 Greatest Public Courses, Best in State, TPC has been chosen to be the host site of the 2019 NCAA Division 1 men's golf regional. Designed by Tom Fazio, the course gives golfers the experience of PGA Tour-caliber golf. It has been played by greats such as Tom Watson, Gary Player and Lee Trevino.
King's North at Myrtle Beach National offers several of the Grand Strand's most memorable holes, including the par 5 hole, "The Gambler." Golfers aan choose the hit the driver long enough over an expansive water hazard onto an island fairway for a good chance of getting to the green in two or take the safe layup and a short approach over water for the more conventional three-shot hole. The course also delivers a dramatic ending with the par 4 18th, which feature an array of 40 bunkers. Golf "Places to Play" has awarded King's North 4.5 stars.
Pine Lakes Country Club opened in 1927 as Ocean Forest Country Club. It's called "The Granddaddy" for being the first course on the Grand Strand and is known for being the place where the magazine Sports Illustrated was founded. Architect Craig Schreiner gave it a full-scale renovation in 2008, bringing it back into the spirit of the 1920s. The back 9 still reflects the original design and the front nine was renovated to enhance the elegant experience golfers from around the world associate with Pine Lakes Country Club.
Grande Dunes Resort Club has been highly rewarded over years, named "National Golf Course of the Year" in 2009 by the National Golf Course Owners Association of America. Grande Dunes offers one of the most challenging layouts in the 22-course Founders Group Collection. The Roger Rulewich Group design is on a high bluff overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway.
Pawleys Plantation Golf & Country Club is a Jack Nicklaus signature greens well-guarded by bunkers, challenging fairways dotted with water, and views of the saltwater marsh that divides the mainland from Pawleys Island. It has received numerous occolades from Golf Digest, Golf Magazine and other national media. The S.C. Gold Course Ranking Panel ranked Paeleys Plantation as one of the top 50 golf courses in South Carolina in 2016.
The S.C. Golf Course Ratings Panel rates the Best Courses You Can Play biennial, filling in the even-numbered years with South Carolina's 50 Best Courses.
