WMBF "America's 100 Public Courses"MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Two of Myrtle Beach's golf courses ranked among “America's 100 Greatest Public Courses” in the Feb. 2015 issue of Golf Digest."Dunes Gold & Beach Club was raked #50 and Caledonia Golf and Fish Club ranked number 73. "Congratulations to the Dunes Club and Caledonia for being ranked among "America's Greatest Public Courses," Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday President Bill Golden said. The Dunes Club was designed by Trent Jones, Sr. and opened in 1948. This course has hosted many golfing events, including the U.S. Women's Open, six Senior PGA Tour Championships, and the PGA Professional National Champion.A Mike Strantz design, Caledonia's layout was crafted over 100 acres of property. The course has an antebellum style clubnhouse that required forced carry over water.“Myrtle Beach has more outstanding courses than any other destination in the country, and having two layouts ranked among America's top 100 public courses is further affirmation of that quality,” Golden said. Golf Digest chose the courses based on shot values, resistance to scoring, design variety, memorability, aesthetics, and conditioning.
