When Lorraine and I come down next month we are planning to spend a day going to North Carolina and see the beaches and do some exploring. I thought we might eat lunch in Calabash and was wondering which of these places ya'll thought was best. They both get good reviews on the board.

Thanks

Jeff

We have eaten at Nance's several times. This is your basic good fried seafood. The lunch specials are amazing and VERY reasonable. You get a choice of your "fried" fish/seafood, fries, hushpuppies and top it off with a very very good glass of sweet tea. The atmosphere is very casual but the view of the water is lovely.

Im not into the fried food, so we like Ellas because there are many other choices. The portions are huge, the prices are great and the hush puppies rock.
Its an unassuming family type of place, not on the water if views are what youre after.

Good sweet tea too-

Lunch specials were 5.00 bucks last I was there.

We usually call ahead -

I like Ella's better because they have more choices. If you're eating fried...Nances is just as good. I eat most often at Dockside....it has the best building and view and I think the best of what they serve. Their menu has more than Nances and not quite as much as Ellas. All 3 are good but not the variety you'll get at Murrell's Inlet. I like the fresh fish at Crab Catchers in Little River....black bass, trigger fish, red snapper are all possibilities. Larger and better shrimp than most local seafood restaurants.

We chose Ella's for lunch last Monday. We finally decided on Ella's because they were busier than the rest and to me that is a sure sign it is a good place. We both got the lunch special with flounder and shrimp. It is served with fries and slaw. The hushpuppies were the sweet kind served with honey butter. They were a meal all by themselves. The service was great also. It was alot of food for 5 bucks! If you are in Calabash, you really should give this place a try.

We ate at Ella's again this year. Love the hushpuppies. While I'm generally a fried oyster kind of girl, the fried scallops were even better...spectacular in fact. Lightly breaded and just firm....not over done.

Our group says: the oyster stew was OK; the crab bisque was wonderful; the fried calamari appetizer was good and way...way more than enough for three.

Does Ella's serve only seafood? My husband won't eat seafood and I do so I would like to eat there if they have other items. Thanks Cathy

Looks like they have a steak dinner and a chicken dinner.
He could eat salad and hush puppies and probably go home happy.
My son gets kids spaghetti, my niece gets chicken fingers-

Ate at Ellas while we were down at the beginning of the month. It was EXCELLENT! In all the years we have been in Calabash this was our first time there. Sorry to say it blew Nance's out of the water.

I had the create your own seafood platter with shrimp and scallops, Paul I believe had the shrimp only, Mom had the fried flounder. I asked for mine well done (like VERY crisp) and it was perfect! Mom said her flounder should have been a bit crisper but was delicious anyway. Sy had the Ribeye for $14.00. What a deal! He got a trip to the salad bar, fries, veggie and rolls. It was perfect.

The atmosphere was very nautical and bright which we loved. I would definately return and actually am looking forward to it!
