Trip report.......

Stack House..... Cherry Grove......June ........"1986"

Ok...Ok.... I know..... Little late with this one.........I've been busy.......

This was a spur of the moment, tax return, lets's do the beach trip. Middle of June. Summer solstice, moon, gravity, tides.....maybe storm way off shore....all your "don't mess with Mother Nature" stuff rolled into one week.

As you can see from first pic. Beach was way over due for renourishment. Mile or two stretch of beach had seawall protecting oceanfront beach properties. There were no dunes along this stretch. Normal high tide the water didn't reach the wall. This week........Well......Look for yourself.

Notice laying up on the seawall in first pic. Bits and pieces of steps and such that washed away with each tide.

Last three pics were from top of the wall at high tide.

Driving into Cherry Grove on Sea Mountain Highway. You have the inlet/marsh over to your left. At high tide that week the water came in so far there would be several inches to a foot of water across the road. Black Pearl mini golf was high enough the water didn't reach the course. It did flood the parking lot.

The large building in the pic is Oceans where we stay most trips now. Stack House was next house to the north. Had been on the market for some time and hadn't been mantained. Was so bad the family renting top half only stayed one night. This was first vacation for our "new" family. We loved it. Realtor had repair people there almost everyday for one thing or another.

Everytime I watch John Candy and Summer Rental I think about that house and trip. No A/C. Slept with windows open. Woke up first morning. "What am I hearing?" Public walkway between house and Oceans. People were walking by within a few feet of my bed.......

The house is still there. Called Lady Of The Sea or something along those lines. When we stay at Oceans I make it a point to walk over and take close look. Brings back many great memories........

I remember those days so well. You couldn't walk the beach ever at high tides! Thanks so much for sharing!

Well, just look at who has become the Internet guru! :notworthy: Good job!

I can understand being late with a trip report, but 26 years gives new meaning to the word "late"! :clown:

I enjoyed reading this, Alan! Thanks so much for sharing!

Love the panama jack t-shirt. That was the big thing back during that time frame. May have had some of those myself.

Enjoyed the pics. Really surprised at the water hitting the deck.
