Day 1, sunday, aug. 14, 2011. Left Farmville Va., on schedule, @ 5 a.m. Tried a route I never used before- 15S-96S-96/301S-701S-9S- and picked up grissom hwy. what a GREAT route!! Saw maybe 3 tractor-trailers, and the traffic was close to NIL!!! Wife slept most of the way. fine with me. I like to drive. Started to feel sniffles coming on Sat. morn., and got worse thru the day. But...nothing was going to stop us from coining to the beach. Said to the wife, I don't care if a freak snow dumps 10 ft., we're goin!!!
Only took about 20 minutes to load up last night, but about an hours to get all the stuff to room. We're up on what is actually 12th. floor, but listed as 10th. WHAT A VIEW!!
Gotta help the kids now. more on day one later.

I'm back. They IChris, Amy + Cgris jr. had a good trip too, except for when they were close to us, on 501. some guy with MICHIGAN tags pulled out without looking. They wound up on the grass median, no harm. An aside to this, the car they are driving is a rental. both Chris and Amy are on the Prince Edward vol. Rescue Squad. They were at the office where we work, and they heard a call come thru on the scanner: Worker for Longwood well drilling is having a heart attack. THAT was a call for me, but NOT a heart attack. It was heat exhaustion. anyway, Chris and amy get there same time as res. sq., and Chris drovew the company truck back, following the ambulance, with me inside. Amy, in her car, stops for a red light, and an 80 year old guy slams into the back of her, totalling her car. she's got a scare to her, and she was a bit sore, but no serious dMAGE. i WAS IN THE HOSPITAL FROM ABOUT 3 :30 TO 7 P.M. bACK TO WORK THE NEXT DAY!! (i'M EITHER STUPID OR DEDICATED, CAN'T QUITE FIGURE OUT WHich!!! mORE THE STUPID I THINK!!)
iT'S NOW 6:20 P.M., WE'RE ALL UNPACKED, AND AFTER A SHORT REST ( i HAVE YET TO SEE THE sUNDAy paper, not even the headlines), we're going to get a bite to eat. either Hungry howie'sd (Chris sr. loves that stuff) or golden corral, all you can eat steak buffet!!! I think i'm outnumberd, so the G.c. will probably have to be monday.
Looking forward to the meet-up tomorrow. Kirk's @ 6 (OR 7, i'll check in meet-up page, and get time right.)
The drive was just about 99.999999999 stress free. thought I missed one turn, but found out about a mile down the road I was still in the right direction.
this is my first workings with a laptop, and it's taking some getting used to, so please excuse my spelling errors. I did attach an optical mouse, my fingers seem to be too big for the dragging stuff. Other than that it's a great little maching.
more tomorrow, and i'll also add my 2 cents on the meet-up. :nanner: :nanner:

Just a quick add-on to yesterday. Chris jr., our grandson, was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited!!! He loves the view of the ocean. He is usually scared of thunder-storms, hides his head under the covers, BUT last night he sat with me, and we watched the lightning show together. He even started to go OOOOOOOHHHH, and AAAAHHHHHHH with each show of lightning. Of course, we were inside the room, and away from the window, but still could see it. How could you not? He's starting to move around a bit, so he'll be up in a few. Going to the usual spot for breakfast, the Pan-Am, down near 16-15-14thS, St. + 17 Bus. N. Hope it's as good as it was the past 5 years!!! More later!!!!

I LOVE watching lightening. Its so exciting. I taught my kids to love it also. All my brothers and sisters were younger then me, and all of us would sit out on the porch of the old farmhouse we grew up in and watch it.

Day 2 report for Monday, Aug 15.
Didn't really do much yesterday. We all went to breakfast @ the Pan-Am, and as usual, the food was great, and the price was low. We go there almost every morning on every vacation for breakfast. You can't beat the food, the price or the service. You get more than your money's worth there.
Went to a few stores with the wife, while son and daughter-inlaw took our grandson to Ripleys Aquarium. He was a bit shy at first, but after a while he really liked it.
At 6 we met with NHDAD, Frank, and his wife AND DAUGHTER, ALONG WITH wALLY @ kIRK'S ICE cREAM ON 25TH ST + 17 bus. N.. not sure of the exact st. #, but it's right up the street from The Palms where we're staying, si it was easy to find. Wife and I actually walked there. Had a great time, and I again pigged out on the peanut buttercup ice cream. DELICIOUS!!!
For dinner we went to the Golden coral on 501. Seems to me that the cut of beef was a lot better than last years cut. Thicker, and tastier. Wasn't too crowded either. But I guess dinner at 7:30, not too many placed would be crowded.
I then went to bed. My sinuses are active, and took some meds. That made me sleepy, so I took advantage of it. Haven't slept more than 6 hours in a long time. I actually felt GOOD when I woke this a.m.
Son and daughter in law are taking grandson for his very first haircut today. Been thru that with Chris, so the wife and I passed on going with them. That's something just parents should share in, just themselves. (And yes, there is a "tint" of sweet revenge hidden in there!! LOL!!!)
That's about it for now. I'll post todays happenings tomorrow!!!
THANKS AGAIN WALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey people!! sorry I didn't finish the day by day log. We did just about the same every day. Pool, ocean, lazed around. didn't want to bore ya all. We had a BLAST tho!! The meet-up was GREAT, Wally took fantastic pics (See the meet-up post Aug. 17 @ Kirk's to view Wally's fine work), and we all had a great meeting. It was a small group, but we still enjoyed it. One funny story. On Fri., after breakfast, connie and I took Chris Jr. to Barefoot Landing. After doing a little buying, and a lot of walking, I had to use the rest room. We found a shady place for Connie and the little fella to sit while I tinkled. Well, after holding MY hand the whole time (Chris jr. became quite attached to me during the week, and I loved EVERY SECOND of him being my little shadow), he didn't want me to go. He started to cry, and Connie said to go on, he'll be o.k.. WELL..........................I got no more tham 2 feet away, and Chris starts yelling "PAPA, NO PEE-PeE. PAPA, NO PEE-PEE" all THE FOLKS AROUND US, AND THERE WERE PLENTY, THOUGHT THIS WAS FUNNY (aLONG WITH ME) but he was sure to let EVERYONE know that his Papa was going to the bathrom. FUNNY!!!!!!!!
He's a link to a movie I put together from our pics. I hope it works. May take a while to load. The first few are just pics I took from the balcony, and there are 2 I tok of a rainbow, but you really have to look to see them. The others are just Me, Connie and our precious Grandson. He had a BLAST that Thursday. We just about had to pry him out of the second fire-truck, the one he was able to sit in.
Monday a.m. , after we arrived home , he looked at me and said "Go pool papa?" I had to tell him that we were home, and that the pool was at the BEACH. (We have a 2 ft. inflatible here at the house for him, but we emptied it before vacation, and did not start the re-fill on it). He said " I go anyway". Poor kid!! Maybe NEXT year, we can make it a 10 day - 2 week vacation.
He's the link, and I hope it works, and you enjoy it. Cool song with it too!!!
