Our October timeshare offerred a 10 percent discount card and gave their recommendation of Gauchao's. We've been to Rios a couple of times and, while we found some differences, we enjoyed our meal at Gauchao's. The meats seemed to be of comparable quality; the buffet bar was very nice, fresh and well stocked. Rios has a more extensive bar and includes sushi; Gauchao's does not. Gauchao's is not as cavernous as Rios. My sister summed it up by saying: If it's a business dinner to impress go to Rios; if you're paying the tab, go to Gauchao. We enjoyed our meal at Gauchao's and plan to return in February. Gauchao has a $19.95 Early Bird 4 - 6 and I believe is $25 after 6:00. We did find it a bit chilly in October so you might bring a sweater.

We wanted to try Rios last time we were in Myrtle Beach. We decided to pass because of the price. I don't mind paying for something if I know it is good, but the unknown along with the price made us choose a place we already knew that was half the cost. After this review we may give Gauchao's some consideration.

We haven't been to Rios but visited Gauchao mid-June with a couple of friends, having never been to a Brazilian Steakhouse we weren't sure quite what to expect. The staff were very welcoming, we had a Restaurant.com voucher and they were very happy for us to use this. Salad bar with cheeses, hams etc was very good (especially all the prawns,) and the meats kept circulating, you could have as much or as little as you wanted, you could ask for any special meats you wanted, I had some of their lamb. We all enjoyed it and will go again when we return to the beach. Our friends enjoyed it so much they took some of their friends there the following week.

I especially recomment their "Filet Mignon – Beef Tenderlion"

No kidding, that's what the menu says.

How tender can lion meat be?

I've been to Rioz and it was really good. The price isn't too bad but definitely go with an empty stomach to get your fill. I haven't been to Gauchao but there price is cheaper and it looks like you get many of the same meat options. Rioz is really good for a special night like an anniversary or treat. I do like the salad bar at Rioz.

Rioz is great BUT way too much food! The last few times I opted for the salad bar only. It is well stocked with everything from greens to shrimp to sushi to.... Definitely enough good food there alone.

Well, I'm glad I stopped by considering I work in an area with access to this expertise! :nanner:

The tenderloin end (forward end) cut off is the filet, with the remainder being the tenderloin roast (which can also be cut, but usually isn't) Now, while tender, it isn't the most flavorful cut and can dry easily; hence the reason they wrap it in bacon, sprinkle it with seasoning and sometimes top it with sprinkles of blue cheese! However, it should be tender enough to cut with a butterknife! Tenderloins are usually roasted, Filets can be grilled, but like I said need to be protected from drying out.

In France, incidentally, a filet is referred more often to pork tenderloin, unless it is listed as filet de beouf. The reason it is so expensive is there are only 2 tenderloin/beef and they aren't very long. They are the least used muscle in the animal; hence the tenderness. There will be a quiz on Friday! :tongue3:

Wikipedia has a nice picture -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:BeefCutTenderloin.svg

You'all are a mighty funny bunch :wav:

I might go and try the tenderlion next week, since it is going to be my birthday and I am a ... Leo. Darn! I can't use the play on word. (In French astrology, a Leo is called a Lion.)

Ah well ... back to my cage now.

We ended up going to Cracker Barrel instead.
Talk about a detour

It was nice. I like their old fashioned style. And their biscuits are to die for.
