I saw some activity near springmaid pier recently. Now is the time to start getting your gear ready for the fall season. Last year I was lucky enough to catch this nice Dusky shark while surf fishing for mackeral.

Awesome! Although now it'll be even scarier to watch my kids in the surf, knowing those types of critters are lurking there.

Yes it would be wise to advise them to exit the water to knee deep when a large school of bait fish swim by. In the fall mainly we have barricuda, blues, king mackeral, sharks all will bite when in a feeding frenzy.

It's funny - you know in your head those things are out there, and you know you're in their "home" when you venture into the ocean. Still, actually seeing it like in your video really brings it home and makes you think about it more. I know if you're near lifeguards and they see bait fish they'll make people get out of the water, but you're not always near a lifeguard, or it may be non-peak season but still warm enough to go into the water so there are no lifeguards on duty.

I shuddered when I read your trip report last year---the swimming at dusk/evening is not a good idea if you are worried about sharks.
