It has taken me way to long to get these photos online. Alan (pop2748) let me borrow the originals last year at a meet-up.

The pictures were taken in 1961. The pier you see separated Atlantic Beach from the Southern end of Crescent Beach. I had one heck of a time trying to get the other two pictures stitched to where you could see detail. It's the composite of 1 and 2, and I'm adding it just so you can see the expanse of the two shots.

The composite is sized at 16" wide. Be sure to view 1 and 2 at full width (14") in order to see the beach houses.

There's a lot of history to these pictures, and I'll let Alan fill you in on the details.

Alan, I'll bring the originals to you the next time you and Ruann are here for a meet-up.

I love older pictures. There's just something so thrilling about them.

No highrises. Only one water tower way up to the north in pic. Water wasn't fit to drink anyways. Would drive up towards Little River with Dad with jugs. House there had spring water. Fill your jugs and leave donation for their church.

The pier was located where Baywatch Resort sits today. Hard to believe today but there was still segregation in those days. To the south of the pier was the "black" beach. To the north was "white".
It was never a big deal up here in the hills.
We stayed in same house at beach for several years. Cousin and I never even noticed the seperation until we were older and it was pointed out.

When I first joined the board I posted something about early trips. Mentioned playing pinball machines at the pier. When we were a little older and allowed a longer leash. That building in the pier pic was where we played. One regular pinball machine and one of those baseball deals where you would "bat" the ball. Think we wore that one out.
