My father in law recently passed away and his final wishes were that we take his ashes to Myrtle Beach one last time and have dinner at Drunken Jacks on his birthday which is May 5th. We were looking to do a long weekend Checking in Thursday the 3rd and leaving Monday the 7th. There are going to be about 15 of us, so we will need multiple rooms. Anyone have any suggestions on where we could stay that isnt going to break the bank? We usually rent a condo but being we aren't going a full week I don't know what else is out there. Thanks!

This is a special situation where I think your should call some area hotels/motels, ask to speak to a manager, and explain exactly why you will be in their area and how may be in attendance. (This is not not your ordinary vacation.) Ask if they offer special bereavement rates for relatives celebrating the life of a loved one, in a place he loved more than any other.

I would also call Drunkin' Jack and tell them the same thing. Ask to speak to a manager and tell him/her you would like to make reservations due to a dying man's request, and you want to implimate his wishes.

Now go to my rental web page:
http://www.funbeaches.com/condos_rentals.html
Scroll down to the right hand column that lists accommodations. It says:
Best condo rentals in Surfside Beach and Garden City Beach (the two "Family" Beaches,) Pawleys Island, Murrells Inlet and Litchfield
Start calling for the best rate you can find.

I don't know if you are interested in in a cremation here, but if so I have a friend who does this, and I could contact him if you are interested. He takes his boat out to the required-by-law distance from shore and allows time for a ceremony. Here is the cremation on his boat for a friend of mine. He charges around $250.

Hope this helps!

You might want to call The Caravelle Resort and inquire. We've stayed there for several years and noticed they accommodate a lot of small groups such as wedding parties and sports teams. They have several buildings, some ocean front and with others across Ocean Boulevard (which would be cheaper). Here's the web page for "Groups" with a special sales department number to call and even an online request form:
http://www.thecaravelle.com/meetings/

Although they promote their conference and banquet facilities, I'm pretty sure they provide "accommodations only" packages for groups. Good luck.

Jack

Agreed, extremely touching.... we did similar ceremonies for my father (one on the Chesapeake, one on the coast of New England... he liked to get around).

They were very healing.

well ...we booked the Ocean Reef May4th-7th. We felt that this was the best fit being there will be 7 kids under the age of 10 with us! So many activities for them to do without having to go anywhere. We are still looking into doing a memorial boat ride , my mother in law is handling that part! I will let you all know how it goes. Thank you for all of your help!
