Misti and I will be heading back down in late July (depending on the schedule of our local baseball team where she and I both moonlight in the summer). Looking for a new hotel again this year (just to shake things up), so I'll be doing plenty of research this Winter here on Fun Beaches.

Great Myrtle Beach memory? Sooooo many to choose from. I'll go with a "before kids" memory... Our first vacation together as a married couple in 1990, introducing each other to places in Myrtle Beach where we had gone with our own parents when we were kids. That meant me driving her to Calabash, North Carolina for dinner and a visit to the Christmas store at Callahan's... which was my Mother's favorite night at the beach. Misti fell in love with Calabash after that first visit, and it is still one of our favorite evenings during our vacation.

Great story, Scott. So many people have deep roots in this area. We have seen so many changes over the years...some good, some bad. But never boring! Look forward to seeing you when you visit!

Isn't picking a favorite Myrtle Beach memory like picking a favorite child? (although there are times when the favorite child thing is less difficult than others)

Shagging at Harold's or Ducks, but mostly Harold's
Running into the same people you met last year who picked the same vacation dates as you again
perfect, not too hot, days on the beach
late, late night walks on the beach with distant lightning flashing on the horizon
jumping waves on jet skis
foot-long hotdogs from Sam's Corner at 2AM
morning bagels on the balcony
horseback riding on the beach
"special recipe" diet coke with my toes in the sand so my feet don't get sunburned
catching little fiddler crabs with the kids
The Dirty Myrtle Mud Run obstacle course
sand sculptures
Church of the Lost and Found at the OD Pavilion
5K race down the beach and back at high tide where we had to run in knee deep water (that one wasn't fun to do, but now that its over its a fun MEMORY)
Jim Quick and the Coastline Band at the Boat House
riding our new road bikes and getting caught in a torrential downpour
The Swamp Fox Roller Coaster back when it was "the big one"

...fun times

Pete & I plan on being back next Sept. We find it less crowded, less traffic than during the summer months. I know we take a bigger risk with weather, but we just love it then.
I didn't write our trip report this year, but one of our favorite things in MB was actually bringing our bicycles with us and riding on the beach and through the neighborhood's close to where we were staying. (we also watch a beach wedding )
And also a trip to Pawley's Island and wow was that fun! It was low tide and you can walk for what seems like miles before you get to the water. Just beautiful there.
Can't wait for our next trip. Oh and we also drove around a bunch of neighborhoods because in a couple of years we hope to make MB our forever place to live.

We plan on going back in late June again.

I've probably been around 40 times and can't remember any trip that disappointed. One of the most memorable was shortly after I graduated high school. Had a group of seven that went down. It was one of the years that I-40 had a rock slide (pretty common it seems). Had to take some back roads to detour, which made the trip a little different than normal. No GPS back then, so it was old school mapping the route out.

Lots of beer drinking, girl chasing, and hangovers that year. What made the trip even more interesting was that we went down without reservations. I think we had to stay in four different hotels that year. Not one place that would rent to us had over two nights vacancies all week. Lots of fun that year.

That brought a great big smile to my face. Getting old is no fun, but oh my gosh...the memories are priceless!

It sure isn't any fun. I've always said that vacations make probably the greatest memories that you ever have. I guess that's why I look so forward to our yearly MB trip. It must be nice that you and Wally get to enjoy the ocean all year. I could only imagine.
