First Vacation and I'm in my 50s....yeah, a nurse that works too many hours decided to take off....my husband and I are coming to the area. We can't afford over 135 a night, hard to do if we want on the beach, but we have never vacationed since we got married 5 years ago. Booked Litchfield Inn but worried it is not what we want. We want walking distance to stuff but still quiet. Any ideas? The room we have is next door to the main hotel, not sure about that either???? Please help!!! We just need a clean place with fun things but quiet too when we need it to be....plus I like a bar/restaurant where we stay...so we can unwind....again worked 107 hours last 2 weeks so I need a break!!! Help please! Rose

Angela is right...it helps a lot to know dates because prices are a lot more during tourist season.

If you can vacation in Sept. or Oct it's still warm enough to enjoy the beach. Here's a chart with average monthly air and water temps.

You might take a look at airbnb as they have become popular inexpensive rentals:

Also check with VRBO (vacation rentals from owners.)
Here's a link showing the various areas of the beach. The locations further south and further north will not be as busy as those marked "central."

Again, it depends on when you visit us,but if you sty anywhere near the Boardwalk, you find plenty to do within walking distance. Of course it isa lot more quite in the off-season
Here are a a couple links for the Boardwalk area:

Hope this helps.

We have used VRBO many times and have found it to be super helpful. We get a much better deal than booking through the hotels. We always stay on the beach side. We usually go during prime season too, but have still been able to find good deals. We like the northern end of the area, Caravelle is one of our favorites and found great deals on VRBO for them. One of, if not the nicest hotel we have stayed in.

Consistently working over 50 hrs a week.... definitely time for a vacation !

If you are looking to keep food costs down (but don't want to cook in your room), Myrtle Beach has an incredible array of happy hours and most include food specials.
