I'll have to keep an eye on this thread and offer any advice I can. It's coming up on 2 years since I started my journey and I've already passed the one year anniversary of losing (and keeping off) 130lbs. Since then I've become a personal trainer and weight loss specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. I'm working with Dr. John Berardi to get my nutrition coach certification and working towards my BS in health/wellness behavior change psychology. So any questions, issues, etc, feel free to ask away or PM me.

Wow! That is so impressive, Chris! I can't imagine how much willpower and dedication it has taken you to come this far! You have really changed your life around.

130 lb, that is awesome!

I'll update mine. Last October I wrote how I started riding a bike, lost some decent weight, and gained a little back. I posted that I had high cholesterol and didn't have current cholesterol data but my high blood pressure had dropped from a typical lifetime 149/95 to 122/78.

Since then I had ridden another 100 miles to finish out the year when winter hit at 1000 miles on the bike. My goal was 1500 miles but we had a lot of rain all summer. I'm pretty happy with hitting 1000 due to that.

Back in November we had a health wellness check at work (every year.) I can't remember what my cholesterol was or what it came down to, but it did come down a good bit. The number I do know, which in my eyes was really high, is the triglycerides number. I started out in 2012 with triglycerides at 450. That's the following year in 2013 after the Myrtle trip that I started watching what I ate and started riding the bike towards the end of summer.

2013 triglycerides number was down to 375. Last year with 1000 miles on the bike but no weight loss (slight increase from prior year) when we had our wellness check, triglycerides were dropped from that 375 to 189. I want to say previous total cholesterol was 249 or 239. Last November total cholesterol number was 185. Again, the blood pressure was about the same compared to my lifetime normal, 118/82.

I'm pretty thrilled with what's going on with the cholesterol stuff. Unfortunately, a good bit of the weight has come back. I'm sitting around 230 again.

Thanks Patrish. I will say it's not always easy, but for me the willpower, etc was pretty easy. Everyone has their trigger or motivation that causes them to go from contemplation into action. For me it was a combination of my own mobility (getting out of breath walking from one room to the next, struggling with something as simple as putting on shoes and tying them) and Marsha's health issues. After a physically miserable trip to PA, and seeing the issues Marsha had, I made a complete 180 and never looked back.

Mrodgers, that's awesome about the cholesterol numbers. Physical activity is key. Even though weight and health are seen through the same lens by most, they are two completely different animals.

Time to bring this classic thread back up. I start thinking about the beach around this time of year and I have to do better with the weight loss this year. We used to vacation in late July and since we switched it to mid-June it has really hurt the weight loss. I figure going to the beach a month later has cost me an extra month of clean eating for about a decade now. Going to try a ketogenic diet and see how that goes. Really getting too old to carry around this extra weight. Wish me luck.

Boy I definitely know what you mean! I have such good intentions...buttttt have really gained my absolute limit the last 2 or 3 years. I am getting to the age that it is almost impossible to lose any weight at all. My bad habits of moving slower and slower have surely contributed to my eating "holiday" foods most all year long and the extra weight gain. I have no idea what a ketogenic diet is....but I am going to read about it. Hopefully something a little easier than counting calories and carbs. Good Luck to you!!

I've lost 15 lbs now. Kind of got sidetracked through the Xmas holidays, but back on track now. Mentally I seem to be in a better place to get this done compared to the last few years. Would really like to drop 40lbs before the beach trip.

I've lost 30 lbs since last summer! I've been maintaining and keeping it off. Pretty proud of myself!
