Yup in today's newspaper

http://www.myrtlebeachonline.com/news/b ... 36098.html

A 20-year-old building that once housed Carlos’ n Charlie’s at Broadway at the Beach may be coming down to make way for a new two-story structure that will house a Paula Deen restaurant.

The city of Myrtle Beach received a building permit application Monday to demolish the current one-story restaurant for the construction of a 21,000-square-foot, two-story restaurant with retail space.

BATB is really going to look different in the next couple of years. Not only are they closing some old businesses, they are demolishing the properties and starting over. I just hope the place can reinvent itself and become better, and that it's not just a cycle where this type of venue is dropping in interest. MB really doesn't need another vacant area like the old pottery place.

I have always wondered why the celebrity chefs haven't opened more of their places in Myrtle Beach. You would think they would clean up in a tourist town and in particular around the Broadway and Barefoot properties.

Not if they are high priced like margariaville. Barefoot has a lot of good places to eat. My new fave is that bbq place.

Margaritaville was one of our higher priced meals of the week and it was usually a shared meal and nothing more than burgers and nachos most of the time. Even though MB is a tourist town, it's a seasonal one and you would have to rely on the locals eating there during the down times. I guess that these people know that the median income in South Carolina cannot support but so many high dollar places. I think another thing that keeps some of the "gimmick" restaurants away is that like many other beach towns seafood is a big item and a lot of people spend their high dollar nights out at those type of restaurants.
