First off, i know this might be a little off topic since im traveling to Key West and not MB this year, but i figured i've been a member long enough to ask my fellow MBMB memebers for some help. We usually drive 77s to 26e to 95s. Every year we drive this we get stuck in a massive back up around cornelius, lake norman all the way into Charlotte, this can last from 2-4 hours on some past trips. I wanted to try and avoid this this year and take a different route, even if this new route is longer i would rather be driving than sitting in a mess.. :BandHead: I was thinking of taking 77s to 74 east to 95s, but am willing to hear any other suggestions from you guys. Thanks for any help you may give, john

Hey John... It's been a long time since I've actually gone through Charlotte... I do go the Beckley WV at least once a year, and I hit 74 at the bottom of the mountain, and cut over past Pilot Mountain and on to Winston Salem where I pick up 311 to North of Asheboro... Down 73, 74 to Rockingham. Then just enough of 74 out of Rockingham to 38. I follow 38 through Bennettsville (the only real slow down) and then 38 on to I 95 and then it meets up with 501 and I head on to Myrtle Beach. I think Alan (Pop 2748) ? has followed this route as well... I have used it for years and it works for me... Always moving forward. and mostly 4 lane. and lots of interstate. US 1 and 52 from Rockingham to Florence may be better or as good as 38 for you... If you go 38, there is a Wilco at I-95 with usually low prices and a Wendy's and DQ that I aim for as well. I'm with you. I don't like to stop in the middle of the road... Tough on the nerves... Good luck, and maybe someone else has some more input ... Have a good trip and hope to meet up one day in Myrtle Beach... Patrish enjoys the meet ups... - Wally

Best bet is schedule your trip to hit Charlotte mid-day on a weekday.
Been a few years since we've ran straight down 77 through Charlotte.. Years ago before RT 220 was finished we drove at night to beat the traffic in Charlotte. Last time was two years ago on a Friday afternoon heading to Charleston. Breezed right through. After morning rush hour and before afternoon rush.
It was always bad on Saturdays on the return trip unless we left beach super early. Everybody leaving MB and Charleston beaches at 8:00am would hit Charlotte around noon on Saturday.
The main trick was to stay in middle lanes and just go with the flow avoiding the merging and exiting traffic in the outside lanes..

That's what i was hoping, i'm leaving at 4 am on Thursday, so i should be driving through around noon. Usually 8 hrs from my house to Charlotte. You think i should be good around that time?
