Sadly, too many of us suffer from food addiction :ac17[1]: ! I'm good until I take my first bite, then the battle begins :smash[1]: . So far, since my last surgery, I have lost 20 pounds. 20 more would make me happier :drinkin:

went to the dr about 3 weeks ago at my lowest in years and a week later 5 of that came back .. its taken until today to get that back off.. I was hoping to have 15-20 more off before we come down but...I'm happy with where I am right now... and will concentrate on the next 20 when we return lol ... It's a never ending battle ... but a little at a time and it stays off better!

Well congrats on feeling good about yourself. That is a very positive thing in this battle.

Our vacation last week has reinforced for me the need to get healthier. On March 31, 2013 (I remember the date because it was Easter), I embarked on a SlimFast diet. I was so afraid of food cravings, but I credit prayer and God for removing those cravings from me. I'm 5'4", I weighed 325 pounds, I have osteoarthritis in my left hip, and I was just feeling like a blob. In eight months I was down 50 pounds, to 275. I got off track at Thanksgiving and unfortunately stayed off track. I've gained 18 pounds in the past eight months, but I tell myself I'm still better off than I was when I started. On December 20, 2013 I was in the ER with DVT (deep vein thrombosis - a blood clot) in my right leg. I thought it was a sore muscle (it ached and burned) so I let it go for a week before seeing the doctor. An ultrasound revealed the clot was in "pretty much my whole leg" (per the ultrasound tech). Now my right leg, especially the calf, is larger than my left leg. It looks really weird, but doesn't bother me. I'm also on 7.5 mg of Coumadin a day. No one has any idea why I got the clot. I had blood tests and don't have any of the clotting factors or warning signs, I didn't do anything or have any surgery done. My doctor says he'll probably take me off the Coumadin after one year of being clot free, but I'll need to take a baby aspirin a day. If I get another clot, I'll have to be on Coumadin for life.

Anyway (sorry to make a short story long) when we got back from vacation I buckled down back to my diet. I've prayed and once again God has removed my cravings. I've stuck to my diet for a whole three days now, but it's baby steps like that that keep me encouraged. I'm also going to add exercise to my regimen. I have a treadmill and some great exercise DVDs that I can use so that I can alternate and not get bored. I had some minor issues on vacation, just things like tiring quickly, being sore, out of breath, etc. I now have the mindset that diet and exercise, for me, are a matter of life or death - and they probably are. I'm 51 years old so I don't expect this to be easy, but with God's help and the encouragement of my family (which amounts to nagging on my daughter's part, bless her heart!) I will become healthy again. That's my goal - not being skinny or looking great - just feeling better and being able to do things with my family without being a wet blanket and holding everyone else back from the things they want to do.

So, wish me luck; pray for me; and hopefully I'll have some good news to report at the end of this first week of sticking with it again.

Dawne, prayers coming your way. You did a great job in 2013 taking off that much weight. You are right to pat yourself on the back for keeping off most of it. Now that you have made up your mind again I am sure you will do great. It must be very difficult since you work at home. I find that if I stay home in the evenings I tend to snack more. When I am out and about I am happy with a cup of coffee.

Thanks Dawne!! I've lost 25 lbs so far!! I'm worried that I'll be a bad boy on vacation and go from :ninja: to :ac17[1]:
I can't believe how big Sarah and David are now  ! Maybe we should do another Gettysburg meet up  !

Gettysburg was so nice; I'd be up for that again! I am now officially the shortest person in the house. Sarah passed me, then David passed me, and now he's passed Sarah. I'm 5'4", Sarah is about 5'6", David is 5'9" now, Kyle has been 6'1" for a number of years, and Frank is 6'. Sigh! At least I have lots of help to get things down from the top shelf!

Gettysburg? I love Gettysburg. I'm actually going there this weekend for Gettysburg Rocks. If I don't move down south, I'm moving to Gettysburg. I have a half sleeve dedicated to it and the civil war.

Nobody can do it alone. God will certainly help when you ask, and we all support you! Good luck, I know how hard it is, but you've already conquered the hardest part... getting started.

I won't bore you with weekly updates, but suffice it to say, I'm back on track and down 4-1/2 pounds since returning from vacation. Let the losing continue! :cheerleader:
