Where is a good place to buy beach umbrellas? The one we have keeps blowing over. Don 't want to put a fortune into one. Thanks .

Maybe you just need a beach umbrella anchor?

Walmart has beach umbrellas starting at around $25. Here's page 1 of several pages:

Get an anchor, issue solved. Just make sure to get the anchor far enough in the sand that it won't come out.

We have a anchor and it still comes out. I watch the life guards with amazement when they put the umbrellas up and they never move.

Thats because they have good umbrellas and sink them deep. I have 2 just like the lifeguards but different colors I sink the deep and they do not blow away. Good ones are pricey though.

We have used this holder with good results:

We do put the umbrella down any time we leave our chairs to go swimming, back up to the room, etc.... the beach can get very gusty !

Hi everyone,

We've managed to get a few years of use out of our beach umbrella but will definitely need a new one for this summer's trip. What are your suggestions for the best beach umbrella. Once that will withstand the wind quite well and has some sun protection factor. I don't mind paying a little more for a quality umbrella, but only if it will last a few years. I was considering purchasing one similar to what the lifeguards rent, but am not sure they are allowed on the beach (if you don't rent them).

Thanks for the suggestions!

-Debbie

We've been using a large-ish umbrella we picked up at Sams Club. It was reasonable and is durable, but unfortunately Sams stock is hit-or-miss depending on what supplier they have at any given moment. If you can find one like the lifeguards use, I can't see how that would be an issue as long as you keep it behind their line of sight and it is the proper size.... 6 foot diameter ? (anyone correct me.... but I'd laugh at the day lifeguards or the police are out there with a tape measure). However... more important than the umbrella is the anchor which holds it in the sand. I've used this sand-anchor for many years with excellent results... it has outlasted 3 umbrellas:

Good luck - glad to be talking about umbrellas instead of shovels !!!! :nanner:

Thanks, Kirk! We do have two of those types of anchors and yes, they are amazing. Our umbrella started coming apart at the top (where it attaches to the pole) so we are afraid it might blow away from that point  It works fine on the calm days, but when the wind is a bit stronger, one of us always has to babysit the umbrella so it doesn't come apart. The lifeguard umbrellas always seem to remain sturdy and it's probably because they are wood and ours has much thinner "spokes".

I'll check out Sam's and I'm also going to look on Amazon.

Thanks again! Can't wait until beach season :sunny:

They are pricey so dont be shocked but one on the ones I have is over 30 years old and still good the other is just 3 years old. they will make them to your colors you specify.

My umbrellas drying before being put away if you want them to last that is the key.
