The final section of Highway 311 from Cedar Square Road in Sophia NC to Highway 220 in Asheboro NC, opened June 7th. This is great news for those of us that have been waiting for this section to open.

This has been my route of choice for the last year or so, in lieu of taking the usual route of 40 to 220, or 52 to 85 to 64 to 220.

There is very little traffic on this road, as not many folks have discovered this new route. It will cut LOTS of time off your commute if you are used to traveling the afore-mentioned routes.

Here is the link to the Press release:

For the group's benefit, I will be posting mileage and timing information regarding this new route, the week I am down.

I will go ahead and give you the route that I take, in case others may want to go this way (if it's different than the route you take).

Being that I live in the north end of Winston-Salem, right off Highway 52, I most likely take a similar route that many of you do.
Next time you pass the Germanton road exit on 52, wave.

My route:

52 south to 40 bypass
40 bypass to 311
311 south to 220
220 to 1 to 74 bypass
74 bypass to 501 in Laurinburg
501 (merges with 130) to 904
904 to 701
701 to 9
9 to 31
31 to 22
22 to Kings Road

Again, I will update this thread post with mileage totals and timing totals once I am in Myrtle.

Greg

Thanks, Greg...I know we will appreciate this information! We have been taking 421 east...to I think Yadkinville...then down to Mocksville...then over to Asheboro...sounds like your route might be easier...
