Hi, everyone. I happened upon this wonderful board about a week ago. Already I have gotten some wonderful advice and info, so thank you!

My family and I have never been to Myrtle Beach, but are hoping to visit late this summer. We usually go to Cape Cod for 2 weeks, but decided to break up our trips into early and late summer this year. (My boys, ages 8 & 10, start school late this year, so we thought a late August trip might be nice). We will be driving from NJ, and know the drive is a long one, having driven to Hilton Head a few times in the past.

I know I will have more to say and some questions, especially about accommodations, but for now, I have been enjoying this board.

Welcome Christine! We'll be there for our annual trip in August, and I promise to leave you a few shrimp. Have a great time getting ready for your trip by sharing here with these great people.

I'll chime in that you will find this quite different from the Cape, I know the Cape well having spent all my summers growing up there and living there a couple of years in my early 20's year round.

Wait until you see our Minature Golf courses, you will be shocked at the size of them and the sheer quantity. Like the Cape we are quite spread out, yet there is so much more to do, just no drive-in movie theater, of course the only one left up there is in Wellfleet/Truo, a far cry from the 5 or 6 I grew up with on the Cape.

The water temp is awesome, you'll think your in a large bath-tub.

It's not that bad of a drive from Jersey, I make it from here to Ewing/Lawrenceville in 10-11 hours, I lived in Ewing for many years and kept a boat on Toms River as my beach house. I'll be heading up that way soon to see the grand-kids for a long weekend.

Enjoy our beach once you get here and we will see every year from here on out.

Don't be shy in asking questions and welcome :)

Gary

Thank you, everyone, for the welcome messages! I am really looking forward to experiencing Myrtle Beach. And excited for the change up of my beach experience. Now, it seems, I need to find a way to pack everything we will want to do, combined with quality beach time, into 1 week. *Sigh*.

Christine, don't worry. This may be your first trip to Myrtle Beach, but I'll bet it won't be your last!!! Myrtle Beach is an awesome place for a vacation and the end of August is a great time to go. Like Gary said -- bath water. You'll love it!

Christine - depending where in NJ you live there are different ways to drive down - I live in NW NJ and take I-81 and come into 95 south of DC.

Welcome! I am Christine as well, and also from NJ. :sunny: We have been coming to Myrtle Beach every summer since 2005. The drive isn't bad but you do want to avoid 95 through Virginia later in the morning. We used to leave at 4 AM so we hit that stretch between DC and Richmond by about 7:30 AM. This year we are leaving at noon on Friday and staying in DC then getting up and on he road by 7 AM to avoid the VA traffic.

Welcome Christine...don't try and pack too much into your time, as the beach will lure you. Enjoy it! There's lots to do in the evening after the heat of the day, but the beach is the main event!
