Been trying to move to Myrtle area for years now. Finally decided to really make it happen. I'm a web designer, and want to relocate the business. Got a wife and 2 young kids. We don't make a lot of income, but we do own a house in North Carolina we'll be renting out for $850 a month, and they will be moving in the last week of this month.

I've been looking all over Craigslist for places in safe areas. It's difficult to actually get into a place when you can't actually be there to see it or meet the owners. Found a possibility in Little River, but not sure if that's going to work out. Just starting to get discouraged.

Anyone on the forum know of a place?

I hope someone will be able to help you...not sure what might be available in the Surfside area...but as vacationers we have always felt quite safe ...even when the kids were younger...many parks...a nice public library...and of course the beach...

May I suggest contacting a Realtor. They handle rentals as well as real estate. Tell them the location, what you're looking for (schools etc.), how many beds/baths and let them do the searching for you. It has got to be easier than you looking alone long distance.

We are looking for a bit larger house in the NMB area and we live in NY. My Realtor is my best friend (figuratively speaking...lol) and checks the places out for us, sends us only listings we are interested in etc.

Could you maybe give that a try?

We bought ours sight unseen and have never been happier. It was like this: we came down for a quick weekend and had our realtor show us a dozen condos which met our criteria (sent to him earlier)
In each, we told him what worked what didnt etc. Then we had to return home to work. He continued to look and emailed us the listings which he thought we would like based on our previous visit. you have to have a lot of trust and really communicate. We picked this one and are very happy. This is something we never would have done earlier in our lives but we have learned that life is too short to not do what you truly desire.
You should first, however, look at the school systems since first priority is a good education IMHO. This we did not have to do so our area was not limited. You could probably find a cheap rental for several weeks to give yourselves a chance to scope out neighborhoods that you have researched. Go on a weekend to see if there are kids in the neighborhood and dont be shy about knocking on doors to ask questions. I find the MB, SC people to be the friendliest in the world. good luck.

I think we may have found an apartment in Calabash. Just waiting to get it all worked out. Not far from the action.

Ok will do. It looks like we are back to calabash... Crow Creek condos. The house we wanted in Little River turned out to be more expensive than we can handle.

All the big rental companies as rental agencies attached...google "annual rentals myrtle beach" or " longterm rental myrtle beach" .....I was a long time realtor and still found locating a home interesting here or course I had three weeks. Craigslist was useless. I used a real estate company. I did have a young child too and had it narrowed down to two specific areas due to the schools. I landed in Murrells inlet ...been here for almost six very happy years!!!!
