Thank you all for your kind responses. Now all we have to do is keep an eye on that hurricane, but reports this morning are indicating it will take a more easterly track further out to sea. Keeping our fingers crossed.

Pat and I left Keene at 8:30 on Monday morning, postponed a day by Hurricane Irene’s fury. We had loaded the truck on Saturday with all our belongings in the event the storm did not delay our scheduled Sunday departure. Even waiting a day for the skies to clear did not afford us a smooth trip, as several road closures caused by storm damage and flooding, brought us to a halt. That led to huge delays, one of which allowed us to go five miles in three hours. We finally arrived in Myrtle Beach at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday after 23 hours on the road, a trip that normally takes 16 – 17 hours.

Fortunately I had “chickened out” about driving the Penske truck and our friend who is driving our belongings will arrive sometime today.

As a footnote, we sold our house in New Hampshire last week and we will close on it 9/30.

Congratulations Rich and Pat! :ac15[1]: So happy for you about the sell of your house. Having sold and closed on our old house last month I can certainly understand how you feel although we aren't moving to MB!!!! Glad to hear that you made it safely to MB even if it was a loooooong trip! Enjoy the beginning of your new lives in MB!

The trip is complete, but the unpacking goes on and on and on and ......! I cannot believe how much "stuff" we brought with us that we are now discarding or giving away. Things are going well and we are settling in.

We have been out shopping for furniture, specifically a diningroom set, master bedroom set, and some end tables for the livingroom, to replace some of our rental things. Can anyone recommend a good furniture store? We also obtained paperwork for our new SC drivers' licenses and auto registrations.

The closing on the house is still on target for 9/30.

make sure that you go file now as being a RESIDENT owner
for the taxes makes a big difference...we went to Ashley furniture
and Rooms to go and found everything we needed.... :ac15[1]:

Thanks for the information. We did find most of what we needed for furniture at Ashley Furniture, but are still searching for a bedroom set.

Where exactly do we need to go for claiming the residency for property tax purposes?

Happy to report the tide has turned in the Great Packing Box War, as we have completely liberated the first floor with a few small mop up operations underway. The main resistance is limited to two of the three bedrooms on the second floor, but one of them should come under our control today. Total victory shall follow swiftly!!

Rich,
for taxes it would be the county in which your primary
home is located, I would call and see what you need to bring
as we had to have our SC drivers license and proof of
ownership for the house ..but go soon as it will get filed
before the new tax bills go out...Glad to see you are getting the great box war done. I remember the trips to the Horry recycle
center with all the cardboard boxes ....
