Anybody have time to squeeze in a meet-up on Sunday the 23rd, perhaps mid-afternoon?

Again, we understand that it's the holidays and everyone is busy with families, so if it doesn't work out this time, we'll try again in March, when we'll be back again.

Pat

I have deleted the remainder of this string for clarity.

I called California Dreaming and have made reservations. The the trick is that all of need to be there before we can be seated. This means that we need to make an effort to arrive by 1:30.

Details:
Restaurant: California Dreaming in Surfside. It's next to Ryans, across from Lowe's and Kohl's.

Date: Sunday Dec. 23

Time: 1:30 PM

Reservations: in my name - Blackstock

Message Board Members attending:
Ric and Pat
Charlotte and Leo
Mike L. (and maybe wife Cindy)
Colleen (and maybe son Derek)
Patrish
Betsy
Katie, Brett, Noelle and Kylie

In case anyone needs to call, my cell is:
843-467-3632
See you there! :nanner:

I'm sure the others will come along and post shortly, but just wanted to let everyone know that we enjoyed another wonderful meet-up this afternoon at California Dreaming in Surfside.

It was great seeing everyone! Merry Christmas!

What a great meet-up. Thanks to all the locals who took time out during this busy season to get together at California Dreaming to welcome Ric and Pat back to Myrtle Beach!

Let me say right up front that my pictures did not come out well. But Leo had his camera, so hang in there...good photos from Leo are on their way.

We have company for Christmas! Ann Snider (Wally's daughter) is visiting, and when she arrived I said "Guess what. We have a meet-up planned!" Wally had to work and could not be there.

I finally got to meet Leo's daughter, Emily, who works at Barnes & Nobel.
Here she is with Leo:

Katie, Bret, Noelle and Kylie we there, and it was so good to see this family who have become such an important part of our message board.

It was also fun seeing the always lovely Colleen (our Moderator Beachxcape.) Her husband Brian and their son Derek both had to work, so I was sorry we missed them. This is a picture of Ann and Colleen:

Ric and Pat, it was just like old times seeing you again. Thanks for providing us the opportunity to get together. I look forward to the remainder of your trip report.

Charlotte looked beautiful today. I'm sorry the picture I took did not come out well. Leo, thanks for being such a big part of our message board.

Betsy, we love you. I'm glad you were able to join us today. Have a great trip to CO and tell Nathan we said hello.

Mike L.....sorry you and Cindy did not make it to this meet-up. We had a couple extra chairs!

So big meet-up at California Dreaming yesterday. Great time. Super nice people. Good food. Yada yada yada. No one cares because most people who weren't there and who are reading this thread are regulars anyway and already know just about everyone who was there and only want to see the pictures anyway. I know this. You know this. So let's get on with the show:

This is PatrishaClaus, handing out little goodies to the Wicked Witch of the East. No wait, that's not the Wicked Witch of the East, that's Noelle. It just looks like the Oz character because of the socks. But come on. Can't you just picture that scene where the house falls on the witch when Dorothy lands in Oz and the witch's feet just curl up? I know!

Patrish is pathologically incapable of showing up to a meet-up attended by children without showering them with trinkets. Where was she when *I* was a kid? There are no words to adequately describe Patrish.

Here's Noelle and Brett with one of Patrish's gifts. A child's joy is so easily captured:

I was talking about Brett there. :-)

Next we have Colleen:

http://www.pbase.com/traderboynh/image/ ... 5/original

Colleen is the glamor girl of the message board. If Colleen stepped out of a tar pit wearing my grandmother's house coat, the paparazzi would still be climbing over themselves to get her picture for the cover of Vanity Fair. She defies camera physics. You can't take a bad picture of her. Hey she can't help it; it comes naturally. But what makes her OUR Colleen is that despite all that dazzling beauty, she's a sweet, kind, terrific human being.

Then there was Ric and Pat:

Ric and Pat are down from Toledo, Ohio to vacation in Myrtle Beach for Christmas. Ric and Pat are the most generous and gentlest of souls. You can see it in their faces, of course, and you can sense it in your conversations with them. We got to spend Sunday morning in church together, which was a great treat for me personally.

Here's Brett and Ric:

http://www.pbase.com/traderboynh/image/ ... 2/original

Yeah, I know. This is the message board photo equivalent of "The lion lays down with the lamb." Brett, a gigantic Ohio State Buckeye fan showing some love toward Ric, an avowed Michigan Wolverine fan. Don't be fooled. Brett had a 14" hunting knife hidden under his chair in case Ric made any sudden moves.

True Story Alert: Brett actually told Ric at the end of lunch that if Michigan were to face Florida in a Bowl game, Brett would root for Michigan (He's still furious over the OSU loss to Florida in the Championship last year). An OSU fan rooting for Michigan? Right. It must be Christmas because the only time you make ridiculous statements like that is when you're overcome by the emotion of the Christmas season and you make statements that are absurdly bizarre. Ric just stared at him for 5 seconds with that "Is my wallet still on me?" look and then burst out laughing.

Then there was Ann:

http://www.pbase.com/traderboynh/image/ ... 0/original

Ann was visiting from Boone, NC. She's a female version of Wally so you can simply transpose all those qualities we love about Wally onto Ann. She's an absolute sweetheart who also has EMT training. I had her on call in case the Ric/Brett lovefest got out of control.

Finally my grandchildren were there whom no one but me really wants to fawn over in a write-up. But TOUGH, I'M THE ONE TAKING THE PICTURES AROUND HERE SO DEAL WITH IT:

Kylie: http://www.pbase.com/traderboynh/image/ ... 3/original
Noelle: http://www.pbase.com/traderboynh/image/ ... 5/original

"Aren't they [Isn't he] just the cutest?" -- Sally to Charlie Brown about Linus in "A Charlie Brown Christmas".

It was a wonderful meet-up as they always are. Since June 14th, 2005, this message board has been gathering together in various configurations of locals and visitors at all sorts of venues and restaurants all over Myrtle Beach. Since that first group of seven MB2 posters and their spouses and families met each other at the fountain at Broadway at the Beach that day 30 months ago, these events have grown in their warmth and closeness for those who attend and have in many ways become the centerpiece of many vacationers' trips during the year. And as time goes on and our history of renewing friendships grows longer, it's amazing how easy it is to fall back into the embrace of a long and comfortable friendship, even after being apart for so long.

The message board is truly an amazing thing.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Leo, I really had to laugh after reading your post regarding this meet up. You are getting to know some of us too well, how we think I must say. The first thing I did was look at all the pictures and then I read the report. Thanks for posting everyone. Merry Christmas and to all a good night. Cathy

I'm glad it was a nice meet-up; it looks like I missed out on meeting some more regular and newer folks again. Oh, and seeing Ann again - I met her about FOUR (maybe 5!) 1/2 years ago or so when many of Wally's family was visiting, and you just can't easily find a much more down-home bunch of folks.

I got tied up at work again - been working anywhere from 10-13 (or more, like the other day) hours every day for a couple of months now with only every other Tuesday off. That included Christmas Eve and Christmas itself - 12 hours worked each day. To quote Leo: "Yada yada yada".
