From what I have read, True BBQ opened sometime in September. I did not try it until a week ago and have been there twice since and I am hooked.
It is a small building with no inside seating, mainly because you do not go inside. It reminds me of the old Dairy Queen building I used to get my ice cream at back in New Jersey. There are a few picnic tables set up outside.
As for the food, so far I have had the pulled pork sandwich and the brisket sandwich both were delicious. Looking forward to trying the ribs, people I spoke with while waiting in line claim they are excellent. They have 5 different sauces, I tried the sweet and the house vinegar and prefer the house vinegar. Sandwiches are $5.95 and for $9.00 you get a sandwich, two sides and a drink. Ribs are $11.15 for half rack and 22.30 for a full rack.
It is located on 707. Haven’t been here long enough to give great directions but going south on 17 Bypass you make a right onto 707 (across from Farrow Pkwy) and it is about a mile up on the right. May be too far for those staying in North Myrtle, but if you are in the neighborhood.
I intended to take a picture of the brisket sandwich I had last Saturday but …. what can I say… I was hungry …. maybe next time, when I get the ribs.
Oh yes, they are only open 11 AM to 6 PM Thursday thru Saturday.
I looked at the menu I have and the address is 4002 Socastee Blvd.

Thanks for the review, Bruce. It sounds like a great place to eat!

HaHa!Ha! It took me a very long time to convince Wally to wait until after the photo to dig in!

Here's another good review: ... meats.html

Hope it makes it until next June. Would love to try it. It should be close to the Surfside area.

We picked up our "to go" order last night at True BBQ. It is truly a hole in the wall, but if you like BBQ, friendly faces and good prices, you will want to give it a try.

Bruce has already posted a great review, so I won't elaborate.

Here's their Facebook link. The directions are on this page:

I must of forgot to try this place. Apparently , I said back in 2013 that I was going to try it. Hopefully will remember it for our 2018 trip.

So apparently there is a second location at 341 Robert M Grissom Pkwy, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577 other than the shack.

Another 1 for Barb's list.

I know they used to be there but I think they are gone. That location has been cursed big time by the Restaurant Gods. I'll bet there have been 76 restaurants there since it first opened. OK, OK, I exaggerate. But every time I drive by it has a new name.

OK, here's what I learned:
The same phone number is listed on both location links. But the message says True BBQ in Scoastee - no mention of another location.

I also learned they are open ONLY Thurs. through Sat. 11 AM - 7 PM. This may be their off-season hours...I don't know. But the number is (843) 267-1787 if you want to give them a call.
