I have a question about timeshare promotions? I would really like to go on vacation this year but most of the timeshare promotions say "Must have major credit card (debit/check cards not accepted)" I have heard of some places that don't require a major credit card. Can anyone tell me places I could check that might just accept debt cards? I don't think we can afford the vacation without going on a timeshare promotion.. Thanks!

I hope someone will have some specific information for you.

I was surprised to see that some timeshares don't accept debit cards. Seems to me that with a debit card, they would have immediate access to your bank and therefore receive payment faster than with a charge card.

Anyhow, I found a couple links that may help. Not too many years ago, the timeshare deals were easy to find here, and salespeople were outside many restaurants. But I guess that changed when the economy bottomed out.

You will still find timeshare people in front of restaurants, in hotels, every visitor center is a timeshare promotion, except for the Chamber of Commerce on Oak St and in the Inlet. Yes they are in hotels, they pay upward of $100,000 to the resort to place people to act like a concierge and book timeshare tours, restaurants get paid $30,000 and up, it is a big business, at one time I ran 3 visitor centers down by the Pavilion.

Your gift for visiting a timeshare will range from a cost of $25 to $100 or more, it all depends upon the person your talking to and how badly they need a tour, they get paid a flat price on average of $160 for every family they send to the resort, minus the gift cost, so the less they give you the more they make.

I have many friends in the business and should you come to the beach and want to take a tour or two, I will make the arrangements for you and get you the best gift package.

And yes, there is 1 resort that you can tour with a debit card.

I agree with Kirk. We have a group effort here. When someone posts a question, others can often benefit from the replies. In this case, it saves members who are trying to be helpful from doing a lot of research or just guessing.

I know my bank around here is more vigilant when it comes to debit cards. Any out of town purchases or out of area charges, you get a phone call. It gets annoying, but once you experience someone trying to use your card in Florida you are thankful.

Also places like gas stations put high temp charges on cards. It also seems to take longer for the temp charges to fall off. So that cash on your debit card is "on hold". So it leads to over draws or you end up not having sufficient funds.

Not sure if that is the reason or not. Because like Patrish says, they have more immediate access to your funds.

I guess maybe I should start asking why at check-in. Cause I have noticed a few hotels don't take them either. I learned that on my last trip to Michigan.
