What is the word on Joaquin for Myrtle Beach? What are the locals doing to prepare? Just curious because of all the news are going nuts over this. Be safe all!

I'm having a glass of wine! :clown:

Looks like rain through the weekend. Seems to be stalled (maybe due to the hurricane) but it looks like now Joaquin will pass on by and go on up the coast without bothering anybody..

Of course, lots of events were scheduled for this weekend and now have to be postponed or cancelled, but it's certainly not as bad as it might have been!

It seems to be iffy here in Maryland, but could potentially be bad here. Guess we'll see this weekend!

The Horry County flooding is not from the hurricane....it's a storm that seems glued to our area. The city of North Myrtle Beach has had twice as much rain as we have had in Myrtle Beach, and additionally NMB has not yet solved a drainage problem around the Horseshoe area that should have been finished in early summer. This is adding to their problems.

Columbia and other SC cities have experienced more rain than the ground can absorb, so NMB and MB will be the benefactors of that water overload.

When you watch TV or read about "Myrtle Beach" they are encompassing the entire Grand Strand, and they will tell you about the worst.

There ARE a lot of housing developments that have experienced flooding in Myrtle Beach. This has a lot to do what what kind of drainage system was incorporated at the time the development was built, how high the houses were elevated when they were constructed and a variety of other factors such as the roads that run through various areas and developments. Some builders meet and exceed the laws that govern construction; others complete the minimum work they need to do in order to meet restrictions/codes.

We are still experiencing flash flooding across the area with many road closures and possible road washouts. But tomorrow the sun is supposed to shine, and we'll all smile! :sunny:

Hope that sun shines bright and soaks up some of that water!

Stay safe all!
