I haven't seen the real Santa since I was a kid. But I saw him today at Inlet Square Mall. He was seated on a long green velvet couch, waving at me. Well, probably not, but he DID speak to me.

As I got closer, I realized I must be seeing the Real McCoy. His beard and eyebrows looked so natural, so Santa-like. His eyes twinkled and his white teeth sparkled when he smiled. Yet with one look at his eyes, it was obvious that Santa was not a young man.

He told me he prefers Inlet Square to any other mall because it is not as crowded, and he has more time to chat with the children. He loves his big sofa because it can seat a number of children, families and their dogs. Besides, Santa is getting too old to spend an entire day sitting in an Adirondack chair, pretending to be at the beach. He sees the same families year after year. Some bring him their photo album so he can see how these children have grown. And he is now seeing the grandchildren of the parents who once sat on his knee. I asked him what he did when he was not Santa. He gave me smile and said softly, "I'm always Santa." And because we know that magic abounds during the Christmas season, I believed him.

So if you are looking for the the real Santa, take your family or even your dog to Inlet Square Mall for a memorable visit with Santa. His schedule is on the mall's website:

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so I'm glad I had the pocket camera in my handbag!

So precious! He must be Santa, look at that twinkle in his eye! You are so correct Patrish, Christmas is a time for special magic and dreams!

I loved this! He is so cute and I love that the beard etc is real. We have a "real santa" at the Mall of America we go see, who is really good, but this Santa may be the real deal... he definitely has a sparkle to his eye. Thank you for sharing!

Those eyes are magical.
