When Mike, Amy and grandson Kenan were here last week, we took Kenan to Shipwreck Island for his first mini golf experience.

There wasn't any particular thought process about our decision on this location. But Shipwreck Island is only minutes from the house, and rains had set in the day before. Everyone was anxious to catch a break in the clouds and get out of the house. We were lucky in that aspect as the sun came out, the ground dried up almost immediately .

This mini golf course does not have the bells and whistles you'll find at, say, Dragon's Lair or Mt. Atlanticus. But it turned out to be the perfect place for a 5-year old who had never played mini golf.

There were not many people (probably because of the uncertain morning weather) and we let a couple families play through. I was surprised at the friendliness of those who stopped to talk.

Although Shipwreck Island may not be as challenging as some other mini golf locations, there are a few holes that hold some surprises due to the layout and curves.

We did not keep score and let Kenan replay the holes if no one else was around us. All of us managed to get a hole in one during the 18 hole play.

It was a lot of fun for everyone, and I'd recommend it, especially for people with young children. As you can see in the photos below, there were several displays that held Kenan's interest including a huge shark and a some large fish. There were also lots of friendly Muscovy ducks on the property.

Keenan is adorable. It seems like just the other day you were posting pictures of him and he was a toddler. The years go by way too fast.

Amen to that! The older we get the faster time flies. My (older) brother, bless his heart, likes to say we're all "circling the drain." I just roll my eyes, but he has a valid point.

"Circling the Drain".... ouch, that hurts !!!!! (how come there is no old/senile smilie ?)

Kenan is having a blast, how fortunate he has grand-parents living at the beach. :sunny:

I can hear him now.... "When are we going back to grandma's ?" Great memories.....
