Post subject:  VRBO question

So this is actually our second year renting through VRBO (worked so great last time I don't think we will ever go back to renting through the hotels). I jut a few questions for the people out there that are still more familiar with this process than we are.

I sent a check for our down payment (went through no problems). We were then informed that we are to send a check with the remaining balance at least 2 weeks prior to our stay, and then we will get the keyless entry combo (awesome no fob or key!) and unit number for our stay. Can anyone tell me if this is normal? I didn't really think anything of it, but my husband was a little suspicious of it since we did a paypal account last time I believe. It's obviously a little scary sending personal checks. The condo owner has been really helpful and kind, so I doubt there is anything to worry about, but you never know. Can anyone just let me know if this is typical to pay all in personal checks? That may be a dumb question, but I am new to the VRBO thing. I did check the travelor reviews and they were all good. I also assume to be on VRBO you have to go through some sort of approval process etc, so it has to be rather legit.

40 days!!

we've always paid with a personal check and have had no issues. I totally understand your concern though. the owner we use had the same setup with a keypad and mails us the code about two weeks prior to our arrival.

Same here, Ash. We've rented from the same owner the last 3 years and she prefers personal checks -- a deposit and then the balance a couple of weeks ahead of the stay. I think the owners like personal checks since paypal gets expensive for the sums involved. You will love the keypad!

I think you should be fine. My brother rents from owners every year and most of them use this method. Wow. Can't believe only 40 days to your trip. Now if we can only get the weather to warm up.

We have been coming to MB for 17 yrs and we have stayed at the Caravelle the last 6 times. Always rented from VRBO and has been lower priced and great. Try the pool at the St Johns Inn owned by Caravelle. Its big and 10 or 12 ft deep and never crowded. We got sandwiches from the pool bar at Caravelle and go to St Johns.
The laundry is right by the Caravelle pool so you can wash while you swim.

This is our first time renting through VBRO and he had us send a check for the deposit, and in the contract it said send the remaining balance three weeks before arrival, and he also gave us a code for the door.. We are staying at Ocean Creek...Got a Ocean Front three bedroom three bathroom in the South tower with the lifeguard sitting up two chairs, and an umbrella daily for $2000.00 I think that's a pretty good deal..
