Yay! We are here! :wav: The original plan was to leave early this morning, but we left Friday afternoon and drove to Wytheville, just as our kids predicted we would do.

We had a little time to kill before we could get in to the condo, so we made a stop at Boulineau's in Cherry Grove to pick up a few things first. We checked out their deli, salad bar and bakery. Nice looking salad bar. We will keep that in mind!

Back to the condo to unload. Our first view of the beach and, what the heck! It was packed! I don't think we've ever seen that many people out this time of year. This is the end of the SOS Fall Migration and the Shriners are also in town. We decided we had better head out for dinner before they all did. We went to Liberty Steak House at Broadway at the Beach. Here is our review: http://www.funbeaches.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=14605&p=103354#p103354

We sat out on the balcony after dinner until dark and have been watching MeTV. This is all old tv shows. Star Trek, Lost in Space, etc. Corny and low tech, but they are still good shows! After a little frustrating work, I also got Skype set up on my laptop. It has Windows 8. Sometimes I like it but tonight was one of those times I didn't! :BandHead:

It looks like all the rain we left behind in Ohio will be here tomorrow. Oh well, life is good at the beach rain or shine!

We had planned on having breakfast at the Golden Griddle this morning, but the place was packed. Cracker Barrel sounded really good, so we went out to the one across from Barefoot Landing, and actually passed a Krispy Kreme with the HOT sign on! Please don't judge - I think we needed a bit more than a carb buzz for breakfast =) We had the typical breakfast at Cracker Barrel so I won't do a review. It was good as always!

It did not look like it would be a very good beach day, so we went to Tangers Outlet on 17. Mike needed a new pair of work shoes, from the Croc Outlet  and it just so happened that the Bare Minerals store had 20% off everything, so I was a happy girl! Picked up a few things for me and birthday gifts for our daughter. We made a stop at Starbucks, which must be new since we were here last fall. I celebrated the first day of Fall at Myrtle Beach with a Pumpkin Spice Latte :nanner:

Next stop was the Bass Pro Shop to browse a bit and then off to Walmart to pick up a few supplies we still needed. We were both a little tired today, so we went back to the condo to chill for a bit. On the way back from Walmart we found a nice little short cut that avoids the 17 and Main St traffic. Now, we know!

We watched the rest of the NASCAR race and later decided we were a bit hungry. Rather than get back in the car we decided to walk down to Hot Diggity Diner. Nothing fancy here, just good diner food. Mike had a burger with fries, and I had a chili dog with sweet potato fries. Mike said the burger was really good. The chili dog was ok, the sweet potato fries were good, but I was googling over Mike's burger. It looked hand patted and cooked to perfection.

We strolled around the OD Pavillion and there were some die-hard shaggers still there dancing. The ice cream shop was open so we grabbed a small cone and then walked back to the condo via the beach path. We saw the glow of a beautiful sunset and could also see the SkyWheel.

That's it for day one.

I love the OD Pavillion!! So "old school" NMB, it's great! Sounds like a great start to the vacation. Can't wait to read more!!

So happy you are here and enjoying your vacation! This week is the first cool one we've had since summer started. But the temp should rise to 77 by 2 PM....and sunny all day!

Going to be a long week reading all the trip reports. Already starting to regret plans of two day scenic trip driving down......

Just wanted to let you know their salad bar is AMAZING!! We ate from there last trip and it was fresh and the variety was excellent. Watch the salad dressing (we had two of the containers) as they weigh that with the salad! We would have definitely been better off buying a bottle of dressing for the week separately! Much better value :sunny: Enjoy!

Monday - A little on the cooler side this morning, but a gorgeous start to the day!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/ohiomb2lover/9913556354/

We had breakfast at the Golden Griddle, which was really busy again, but we only had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated. I had to try the French Toast and insisted that Mike get hash browns with his breakfast since we had heard so much about them from Zach's report. Oh my, neither of us were disappointed! The french toast came with a ball of butter melting on top, lightly dusted with powdered sugar, and hot maple syrup on the side. (Anyone hungry yet?) The hash browns tasted like they were fried in a cast iron skillet and were nice and brown. Gotta go there folks! An excellent place for breakfast!

From there we ventured up to Little River to see if we were missing anything up there. We saw 2 of the casino boats, Fibbers on the Water and other restaurants we have seen mentioned on the board. Then went back toward Myrtle Beach and decided it was time that we took that helicopter ride we keep saying we're going to do.

Helicopter Beach rides by the airport is the one we took. There is a coupon in the Myrtle Beach Guide, page 21 and the Myrtle Beach Bucks on page 32 for $5 off. We knew going in that the $20 ride advertised would be the bare minimum trip - and it is - only a 2 minute trip. They have several tours to choose from. We took the Broadway tour which is 12-13 miles along the beach up to about BATB. That tour is $59 per person, minus the coupon and a 10% off special for the day. Plus a tip for the pilot.

They were pretty busy. We waited maybe 30 minutes, but that included refueling time, which you want them to do right before you climb in right? This was Mike's first time in a chopper. I had flown in a fancy one years ago when I worked at an Army aviation support facility in Columbus.

The view was spectacular!

Here is the 2nd Avenue Pier.

And here is our shadow on the Atlantic!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/ohiomb2lover/9913493665/

We really enjoyed it and now have one more thing checked off that bucket list!

Heading back, we decided to call Vicki & Kay to see what they were up to at the Windsurfer. We visited with them a bit and then we all decided it was time for dinner. They suggested the Inlet Crab House, which had not been to in all the years we've been coming down here. We had a great meal there. Here is my review: http://www.funbeaches.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=14647

Sometimes those spur of the moment things in life are the best. We really enjoyed spending the afternoon with them.

Mike just had to mention Froyoz on the way back, so we had to stop there for a little dessert. At least it was somewhat healthy! We were back to the condo around 7:30 and that's it for the day.

We've ate meals there a few times. Arriving early before check-in. For one reason or another their deli was just too convenient to pass up for a quick, inexpensive mid afternoon meal. Besides the salad bar they have the deli/cafeteria. Fried chicken, meatloaf, corn, beans and all the other stuff. As good as any restaurant. I'm sure earlier in the day the better it is. By 6:00pm the chicken has probably been under the lamp for a while but mid afternoon. Pretty good.

I am glad you tried the Golden Griddle. It is our favourite breakfast spot and you are right on with your description of the French toast. My Hubby has a thing about potatoes. He loves when they are "cooked" as he says and he loves the potatoes at Golden Griddle. Okay, now I am hungry.

Your report sounds like you are having fun so far and I hope your trip continues to be enjoyable. Thanks to you and Emmy I am definitely going to try the deli at Boulineau's for take out.

Tuesday -

I took an early walk on the beach this morning. It was gorgeous, and a little chilly to start. (Note to self: get a to go cup for coffee on the beach). By the time I started back, it was warm enough to shed the sweat shirt. On the way, I found this gem glistening in the sand: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ohiomb2lover/9915679243/

Wow, first one of the year and largest one I have ever found!

I also passed by a very nice sand castle that the tractors had intentionally left alone on their early morning pass. Possibly one side was taken out but cool to see. http://www.flickr.com/photos/ohiomb2lover/9915602474/

When I got back, Mike was still in bed, so I grabbed a cup of coffee and sat out on the balcony to catch up on email and Facebook.

We had a late breakfast in and decided to set up camp on the beach for a few hours. It was just about perfect for us, although at times, the air had a slight chill to it. This was our view while there:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/ohiomb2lover/9932166296/

We packed up around 3:30. Dinner time was just around the corner, and Nacho Hippo is the place tonight. We got there around 5:30 and it wasn't too busy. Using the B1G1 free coupon in one of the books we walked out of there for under $15. I'll plug a review in here later.

We stopped at BATB on the way back and stopped at Froyoz. After almost 3 years of carrying their punch card back and forth to Ohio and worrying about losing it, we finally filled it and got one of our desserts free! YaY!

We walked around once, and stopped at Klig's of course. Mike's buddy was working the crowd so we had to stop and watch. http://www.flickr.com/photos/ohiomb2lover/9932153086/

Hoping the rain will hold off for the meet up on Wednesday night! Those of you in town for vacation and locals - ya'll come ok? 6:30 pm at the 2nd Ave Pier, 3rd floor.

Wednesday

A lazy morning today. It didn't look like a very good beach day, so we ventured out for a late breakfast at Harry's Pancakes. Good food and prices.

Mike wanted to check out the Croc store at Tangers on 501 so I tagged along. We also needed to pick up a new sand shovel. The one at the condo, which was a military issue shovel, final succumbed to the salt and sand. Mike had heard of another tool store across from Tangers - Warehouse Tools I think. Mike is always very patient with me when I'm browsing. Fortunately for me, this place had a comfortable bench and coffee table of sorts, supplied with a lot of People magazines to keep me occupied while he made several trips around the store. With shovel and a few other little tools and gadgets in hand, we headed back to the condo to get ready for the meet up.

I always say this and will say it again, you need to go to a meet up if you haven't already. We were pleased to finally get to meet several members who have been around a long time, but our paths never crossed while on vacation. It's like a family reunion with all the family you truly enjoy

We thought we would eat something on the way back from the meet up, but couldn't decide where we wanted to go. We decided to just go "home" and fix sandwiches and call it a night.
