I don't know how good my trip report will be or how long, I'm not the best talker or writer. We started out on Aug 8th from Iowa with mom, me and my nephew. We left at 630am headed for Mammoth Cave's. On the way we stopped at Louisville Slugger, it was a neat place, and you get a mini bat at the end of your tour. Someone will have to tell me how to upload pics because I couldn't figure it out. After not finding the right roads leaving because of construction, some people might say being lost which I did a lot this trip, I back tracks to the Interstate I wanted and headed for Mammoth Cave's. But I had to drive past a place that supposedly holds a lot of gold, Fort Knox. Before we left I called someone about it and she said you can't stop and take pics by it anymore after 9-11, she said they have even taken peoples camera who took pics of it, I don't know if that includes driving by or not but I took a pic any way. After that we high tailed it to Horse Cave, before they could catch us, where we stayed the night.

Aug 9th we got up and headed to Mammoth Cave so we were there when they opened at 9am. Mom got tickets for the Mammoth Passage Tour but it was only 1/2 long so we got tickets to the Historic Tour. It was an ok tour, but for some reason I was thinking Mammoth Cave's had Stalagmite's and Stalactite's, because I remember when I was little we went there and that's all I remember from there, but after the tour I asked the ranger and he said Mammoth doesn't really have any, there is a little bit on a different tour but he said to go to Diamond Cave to see them. Anyway there were a couple things I liked about it, first when it's a 90 plus degree day and you walk to the entrance and you feel the cold come out of the cave was nice, second when you get into it aways they turned off all the lights, and when you say you can't see your hand in front of your face you can't, third was Fat Man's Misery, it's a passage in the cave that is like a foot wide around your legs and about 2-3 feet wide around your chest area, with portions wider but then it's only 4-5 feet tall. After leaving Mammoth we headed for my aunt's in North Carolina.

Aug 10th After getting up we hung around her house, I went out and looked at the snake skin she had beside her house, it was about 4 feet long with about 2" smashed up like a slinky on one end so it had to be a long snake. Before we left mom, nephew and aunt had to go out in her yard to see if they could find a fire ant mound to show my nephew how they attack. Then we headed for my aunt's condo and got there around 2 I think. We waited around in the condo until my sister called and said they would be there around 5 so we said we would meet them at Cracker Barrel to eat.

Aug 11th Here's where all the days will be the same for the most part. We aren't the go out to the beach all day people. We go down to the beach and pool for a couple hours in the morning then go back to the condo. I just go down to Myrtle on vacation because I like it and to get away from work, it's not for the going out onto the beach 10 hours a day. I think we went to Giant Crab to eat.

Aug 12th - 18th or so I think, it started to rain off and on all day. I like it when it rains because I can sit in the condo and watch everyone start running, its awesome. I believe on the 12th or 13th mom, my brother in law, and my nephew all got stung by jelly fish. Mom got it the worst on both thighs, like she tried to catch it between her legs. So needless to say when my aunt got down there on the 14th, she's an ER nurse, she made mom go to urgent care on the 15th I think. Then of course later in the week guess who else got stung by a jellyfish, my aunt. Besides the shopping and trying to go to Nascar Park twice and then start to rain so we couldn't, we played mini golf at Buccaneer Bay before they closed. Let's see if I can remember where we ate every night, 12th Drunken Jack's, 13th Burro Loco, 14th Outback which wasn't as good as normal, 15th Cracker Barrel, 16th Big Daddy's Roadhouse I was disappointed, I'm sure some people like it but it wasn't for me, 17th Little Pigs BBQ, 18th pizza, I made it since it's one of those things when you own a pizza place you can't go anywhere else can you?

Aug 18th My nephew flew home more shopping.

Aug 19th-23rd More sitting around and shopping for some. I think we are getting lazier, we used to do more stuff when we came down here but we end up doing less every year. We printed off some pictures to hang in my aunts condo. Tuesday Aug 20th my brother in law flew back home. On the 22nd my aunt went back home and I start getting depressed because I know I'm going to have to leave soon. This was the hardest time I had coming back home I did not want to come home. I can't remember all the places we ate, after looking it over of what I typed I can't figure it out because I know we did certain places before my aunt got there and I have more place that we ate then days before she got there. Because I know the places we ate aren't in order but I'm not going back and change it lol. I know the last week we went to Texas Roadhouse because we bought gift cards and the Texas Roadhouse Grill was the wrong one for the cards. Other then that it's starting to be a blur since I've been back to work for 2 days now and already have it in my phone as 350 days 18 hours until next year, that is unless I come down in my to clean.

Well I'm sure it's not the best trip report but it was my first try at it. I forgot about going up to Callahan's Gifts where I found some Grinch ornaments. And also going to Christmas Mouse where I found more Grinch ornaments, I can't have to many Grinch things. But other then that I guess you just have to go yourself and see why I'm so lazy, it's a vacation I'm not suppose to be going a hundred miles an hour, I have to get away from work and that's what I did nothing. Isn't there some way to move Myrtle Beach and the ocean to Iowa so I don't have to drive so far to get there?

That was a great 1st trip report!!

Sounds like a lot of fun even before ya'll got to Myrtle Beach!

I hear ya on doing less every trip -- that's what I'm finding on our trips there, too. It took a lot of trips to do/see/eat all we wanted to and more...then we streamlined it to certain favorites every trip, so it takes less time and we have more beach/pool time. But then when I think on it, we haven't ever done the dolphin cruise, the casino cruise, the lighthouse/shelling cruise, the Comedy Cabana - or heck, any of the shows, or any putt-putt golfing. lol So there is STILL so much we have to do yet! :ac15[1]: So that's why we keep going back!

and...psst...can we move MB and the ocean to Michigan instead...I just can't gather up enough oomph to move from my family to live in MB, it's so far! lol

Great report. Nothing better than just taking it back a few notches and enjoying the slower pace.

Excellent trip report! Thank you so much for taking the time to write it. I know this is not an easy task, but people really look forward to reading them!

Glad you made it to Mammoth Cave. I think I was about 12 years old when I saw it with my family, but I can still remember thinking it was awesome!

Glad you had a good time. Sometimes the best vacation is spent enjoying family and getting away from work. I'm so sorry about the jelly fish stings. OUCH!

Thank you for "reporting".

Being able to 'crash' on the 1st week of vacation is quite a feat. The last time I truly vacationed in MB it took me 2 weeks just to drive less than 85mph. I walked the floors, climbed the walls & watched shellers @ 4am trying to figure out where the magic of MB went to, for me.

Now I am on the beach @ 4am looking for, ... nothing. Just enjoying MB's magic; which is exactly what I hear in your trip report. Glad to hear you took time to just relax and enjoy your time off. Looking forward to your next report.

Enjoyed reading. We do less now also, but we still haven't done everything. Thanks again.
