Hi all,

I feel a little silly writing up a trip report. Just because I feel like it's all about me, but I know that some of you read them and get some info so I'll take a crack at it.

This trip is a reschedule from a botched flight in August due to hurricane Irene.

The directair flight from Pittsburgh was pretty eventless, except for my father an sister hitting big city traffic and only making it to the gate after all rows were boarding. I admit I was a little worried. I made it in plenty of time though. We were stuck in the back row, but aside from a little turbulence and little leg room it was a good flight. I am still amazed at a plane's ability to get you to far away places in no time at all.

We arrived and picked up our hertz rental car and went directly to K&W, our favorite place for meals here. The fried tilapia was excellent and the coconut cream pie was to die for, at $1.69 per slice!

We arrived at the Seaside Resort early and had no problem checking in early. We have an ocean front condo and it is very spacious and nice. My sister's bathing suit broke (I don't know how a suit can "break," but then again I am not a female) so I rushed her to walmart and picked up some supplies as well.

The Seaside Resort has been great so far. They have indoor/outdoor pools, lazy river, exercise room, free parking, and it's right on the beach. My only complaint so far is that the indoor parking garage is very tight fitting. Luckily, they have an outdoor lot across the street which I will probably use from now on. So far the resort is a hit and I'm giving it 5 stars, but let's see if that holds up.

As for the beach, it's been sunny with the sun hiding behind a cloud now and again. The tide is the lowest I've seen I think ever. It seems I can fit two football fields between the ocean and the buildings. It's pleasantly warm, but I I'll admit I think I like the summer weather a bit more. The water seemed a bit cold at first but I made it all the way in. A good thing about this time of year is that the beach is not crowded at all and you have lots of space. I have never been here this late.

I'm going to try to rent a bike perhaps tonight. We will either go back to K&W or try rosa lindas. I shall keep you posted...if you care. :) might try to upload pics but not sure if I can do it from the iPad.

...

We ended up going to California pizza in barefoot landing. At first I wasn't excited, as I felt we can get pizza at home anytime. It turned out to be a decent meal. The server was very nice. We did wait a while for our food, but I don't know if that's just southern slowness or just plain slow service. We got a large pizza, which was good but not the best pizza by any means. We also had the chile Thai wings which were very good. I was going to go to Maggie moo for some ice cream but decided not to given the amount of pizza I ate. Has anyone had Maggie moo? Settling in for the night watching the Pitt game in our condo. We are early to bed people. :)

Of course "it's all about you!" LOL! That's the way it's supposed to be. Everyone loves trip reports, and trip reports are nothing more than telling us what *you* did, and what *you* liked or didn't like. (We love following our message board members around!) :clown:

I think you're off to a great start! I see the pilot got you to MB without problems.

Let us know if you rent a bike and how that works out. There are bike lanes on ocean Blvd. now, but you need to be careful this week as it's the Harley Fall Rally.

Nice job with linking on this report!

Yep, we love to live everyone's beach vacations vicariously! So keep on posting. It makes my day to be able to come home from work and see a trip report...or a posting of any kind on the board. I have never been to the beach past August...so hearing about your trip is great to me. Thanks1

Day 2 was both interesting and uneventful.

We went to K&W again for breakfast. After proceeding through the line I realized that I had total carbohydrates for breakfast. Pancakes, Danish, and a biscuit. But hey, it's vacation right? Everything was very good as usual.

Let's see...it all seems forever ago... I think we went to walmart after that for small things. Then on the way home, I stopped at North Strand Beach Rentals to rent a bike. This place looks like an antique collector's unsightly back yard. There are bikes and other rental equipment just laid out in front of a tiny building. I knocked on the door but no answer. As I got back in the car a man approached and asked if he could help me. 10 minutes later, he delivered a bike to my condo at a price of $15/day.

The bike itself is a cheap unisex one-speed bike. It was a bit uncomfortable at first but I got used to the ride and at $15, I am not complaining. I tried to ride on the beach but it was high tide and the sand wouldn't allow it. So, I ended up riding up south and north ocean blvd, all the way to the end. I thought I would end up in North Carolina, but the road ends and there was no obvious way around, and it was a good 13 mile ride (round trip) so I proceeded back. I rode with traffic and had no issues with cars or any of the bikers on the road. They were all polite and eager to share the road with me.

After some beach and pool time (I discovered I enjoy floating in the lazy river-I had always avoided them because of the kids it attracted, but I had it all to myself today-another perk of being here in off-season), we headed out to find Rosa Linda's. We had always gone there when I was growing up and it had been closed for some time. Thanks to patrish, we discovered it was open again, but now down in Murel's Inlet. As we approached, we noticed that the bikers' week headquarters was located right across the street! There were tons of bikers around and police. We had to pay to park but were validated after we ate.

Dinner was a huge success. We were very pleased with the food. I had the chile relenos, my father had the seafood packet (cooked in parchment) and my sister had fajitas. All of the food was excellent and it was worth the 45 minute drive down there.

We walked to the next door lot, which was a gas station, but closed due to the biker rally. My sister actually bought a biker shirt. We do not look like bikers at all!

A quick trip to kroger's and we are in for the night. In Pennsylvania, we can't buy beer or wine in a grocery store, and I'm always amazed at the variety of selection here. But we didn't buy any.

The Seaside has been great but today we found a very large roach in the room. It's very possible he got in because we like to leave the balcony door open. This thing was huge though. I wonder if that's normal for SC. We eventually trapped it in a cup and let it free. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

Also, our return flight time was changed! I am increasingly not happy with direct air. Next time we are going to try spirit airlines. What company changes flight times 2 days before they occur!?

I feel bad for the bikers caught in this rain.

Looks like that's all for today. Tomorrow I am going to try to make it to the Gay Dolphin and pick up some tacky collectables. I promised a coworker I would. Then going to try Toffino's as suggested here as well.

I'm enjoying your trip report!

>….and it was a good 13 mile ride (round trip)...
Wow! That's great! :notworthy:

>…Dinner was a huge success (Rosa Linda's) and it was worth the 45 minute drive down there…
Oh good! Whew! I would hate to think of you driving that distance, only to be disappointed. Thanks for the recommendation. We will try to get there soon!

>...My sister actually bought a biker shirt. We do not look like bikers at all!
Bet you sister looks like one now. After all, it's the shirt that makes the woman! :clown:

>…but today we found a very large roach in the room.
I hate those nasty critters! There's just something about them that makes me scream when I see one.
>...We eventually trapped it in a cup and let it free.
Free? Oh no. It will probably come back to haunt you! Next time flush it down the toilet and read it its last rites. Nasty critters!

Thanks for the trip report....guess you can see I'm reading it! LOL!

Great report !

I thought once roaches got to a certain size, they were referred too as palmetto bugs ? I still think they are the result of those nuclear tests.... those critters just aint natural

Saturday was pretty uneventful (If you don't realize it yet, we don't do much in terms of "going out," we just like to enjoy the beach and some shopping and go to bed).

Let's see...we had Breakfast and Dinner at K&W, we found Toffino's (Thanks to you guys), we took our mandatory traditional trip to the Gay Dolphin (I always make my family go, they don't really like it), and we tried some skee ball in the arcade down there.

Other than that, not much. It was significantly colder Sat and Sun so we didn't get much ocean time in, and the pool was a bit chilly.

After breakfast at K&W this morning and an uneventful flight, I am back home in rainy, cold Pittsburgh.

All in all it was a good trip. There are definitely pros and cons to coming this late in the season. I enjoyed the fact that things are not packed and crowded and reserving the condo was cheaper than in summer months, but i would've liked the weather to be warmer. I can't decide which outweighs the other. Plus, I am a teacher, and I think I appreciate the vacation more in the summertime when work is the furthest thing from my mind. So, I guess I am not opposed to this time of year, but would ultimately prefer the summertime. Last year I did an end of August thing, and that seemed okay, but I started work the very next day so... I'll stop thinking out loud now.

Thanks partish for telling me about Rosa Linda's and Toffino's. It was nice to see those things back again.

I guess that'll do it for now.

PS: Would you like me to do a full review of seaside in the Condos section?

Thanks so much for the report! Sounds like you had a good time! I think we were both supposed to head down around "Irene" if I remember correctly. Glad you made it!

Thanks so much for the trip report! I am sorry it was cold when you were here. That is very unusual for this time of year, and we set an all-time record cold Saturday night. It will be a lot warmer here the rest of the week, but that won't make you feel any better!

I really enjoyed following you and your family around on your vacation. If you wanted to write a review of Seaside in the Condos section, it would be much appreciated. While everyone loves the trip reports, sometimes specific reviews - accommodations, restaurants, shows, etc. - tend to get lost and become difficult to locate when someone is looking for specifics.

Thanks again!
