Saturday:

Well the 12 ½ hr. drive down went a lot better than I thought it would. Our 3 year old, Brett, does wonderfully in the car and yesterday was no exception. Tyler is 14 months and he was antsy. We had to stop 5 times to let him get out and stretch. But we kept our sanity. We got to the Sheraton around 4:45, got to the room, settled the boys in and Bryan picked up pizza from Ultimate California Pizza. It’s the 3rd year we’ve done that now and with the little guys it works. They would never sit in a restaurant after being in the car all day long.

Sunday:

I was up at 6:30AM, the 3rd time Tyler woke up through the night. I think the ice machine kept waking him up! Tonight I will remember to turn it off. He is sleeping in the Living Room as my older son would climb right in the pack and play with him if they were sleeping in the same room! Maybe next year.
The boys started waking up at 8AM and went in to get Bryan up. We had a really late start but eventually went to the boardwalk around 11AM. It is really nice! WE never went down last year because Tyler was only 3 months old and it was too hot for him. We scoped out places to eat and get ice cream later in the week. Brett was fascinated by the ocean and absolutely LOVES the airplanes that fly over with the advertisements. :sunny:

We came back to the room for lunch because we learned the hard way last year that going out to eat for lunch just does not work with these two. It’s just too close to nap time. Tyler went in for his nap and Brett went with Bryan to the pool. He’s been begging to go since the moment we arrived. He doesn’t need as much of a nap so it will really wear him out and he can knock out.

I am enjoying the quiet with no housework to worry about during nap time! I made some brownies and am just having some time to relax on the balcony. Love the wi-fi here.

We are going to Original Benjamin’s for dinner. viewtopic.php?f=47&t=12431 I’ll post in the restaurant forum later on.

After dinner we’ll head back to the boardwalk. We got an all day pass for parking.

I am so glad to be here in Myrtle Beach! :wav: :wav:

Sounds like a great first day...I am loving all these live trip reports.

I remember when my Ryan who is now 21 used to start jumping up and down when the planes flew by while we were on the beach. Cherish the memories.

Use to jump up and down when the planes flew by? I'm 39 and I still get excited watching the planes :bounce: .

We had Apache helicopters buzz by twice (I think Apache, missed them with the camera), a couple of large 4 engine prop planes which I saw the Air Force star on, and a Bell helicopter that circled around the beach. That coupled with all the Pipers pulling the banners and the tour choppers and I was loving it. I love aircraft, fly RC, and want to get my pilot's license, though doubt that will ever happen. I'm like a kid when the aircraft are flying by, especially at that low of altitude.

It sounds like you are off to a good start for your vacation. Kids, sun, water and sand. It just doesn't get any better for a family holiday. Enjoy the rest of your stay.

Christine,
I remember when Jordan was that young. He'd stand on the second step into the pool, his hair wet,his baby belly sticking out, watching those planes, with the biggest smile on his face.Thank you for the memory
Sounds like you are all off to a great start. Can't wait to read more.

I was originaly going to do a live report but the days just got away from me!

Here's the rest of our trip report:

Monday: It took forever to get everyone up and out on Monday morning! I was up at 6:30 AM, took my shower and was completely ready, but the boys and Bryan slept in really late. We decided to spend the day at the pool because Brett was BEGGING to go since the moment we arrived! He remembers the water park from last year. Lunch and dinner were eaten by the pool even. It was a wonderful, relaxing fun day. After dinner we went to Barefoot Landing to do some shopping. We’ve never gone at night before, just during the day. It was nice and a lot cooler going in the evening!

Tuesday: We went to the Children’s Museum. It was a lot smaller than I thought it would be and though I was a little disappointed for what you got for the money (I do NOT think there should be a full price charge for parents!) the boys both LOVED it so that’s what matters. Brett is very reserved normally but he warmed up quickly and I think he liked that face that it was smaller. It made him feel more secure. He also has a loooong attention span, so it was fine for him. I think children with a short attention span might not like it as much.

Tuesday night we were supposed to go to the meet-up but Tyler was just completely out of control. Even after his nap he was just clingy and crying. It would have been a nightmare trying to contain him at the restaurant. Some friends of ours who live just north of MB came over instead and we ordered from River City Café so as not to spoil anyone’s dinner at the restaurant. He also was so busy flirting with Randi and it helped him calm down a little.

Wednesday: We declared this another pool day! Last year we did the pool on Mon. Wed. and Fri. and loved it so that is the plan again this year. I did not feel like making lunch so we ordered from the pool bar. The burgers were delicious! We went to Broadway at the Beach after dinner in the condo.

Thursday: We went to Ripley’s Aquarium. It was so nice to see the boys enjoy it so much! Brett loved it last year, too, but Tyler was only 4 months old last year ad was just along for the ride. We went as soon as the doors opened and it was very un-crowded so we felt comfortable letting Tyler crawl around looking at the big fish tanks. He got such a kick out of that! Dinner was at Joe’s Crab Shack viewtopic.php?f=55&t=12432 and we were going to walk around BATB but it started raining so we went back to the condo to let the boys play in the Jacuzzi.

Friday: Pool day! Lunch was made by me and eaten at the pool. Dinner was Joe’s Crab Shack again. Yes we had a lot of repeats this year, but Tyler did REALLY well there the previous night  and the kid’s menu is great. Brett loves shrimp now.

Saturday: Left around 9:30AM (There is just NO motivation to leave early on the trip home.) We made a reservation at the Sheraton in Arlington, VA so we just had to get there Sat. and not all the way home. It is just NOT worth the aggravation as the more north we go the worse the traffic gets. The Sheraton there was great and we had a fantastic view! We were just blocks away from the Pentagon and had a view of the Jefferson, Lincoln and Washington Memorials as well as the Capital Building and Arlington Cemetery from our room on the 14th floor. We got to VA around 5:30PM and had dinner in their restaurant. We had a club floor room but the lounge is closed on weekends so they gave us coupons for free appetizers and non-alcoholic drinks. We just had to buy the boy’s meal and the whole thing including tip cost us $15. Not bad considering our room was free!

Sunday: Left Arlington around 9:30AM and pulled in at 1:30. I did NOT want to go home!!!!!!!!!!!!! :BandHead:

We had a fantastic time and can't wait to be back next year! Hopefully my parents will be coming with us from Maine. :nanner: They have always wanted to go to MB. :wav:

Sounds like you had a wonderful relaxing trip.

I know that you probably hated to miss the meet up but I have to admit that I am impressed you realized your son was going to probably act up and decided to stay at the room. Far too many parents drag their kids to restaurants and other places when they are worn out and not only have a terrible times themselves but also ruin the evening for those around them. There is nothing I hate worse than a kid screaming at the table next to me and the parent just sit there trying to ignore them. It was a rule in our family if Ryan acted up we respected others and took him out. That is so not the norm today. So with that being said....I respect your decision.

Thanks, Deanna! I appreciate that. Yes, we just took it easy and knew that we wouldn't do as much as we have in the past. My older son is more flexible, but Tyler is not. We even had a proper nap time every singe day in the room in his bed. It was fine, though, because Bryan and I took turns staying with the boys and going to the pool. I got to go to the pool ALONE a few times!!! :nanner:

Ron, that's what Brett did. He was just frozen watching those planes and squealing with delight.

Enjoyed reading your trip report. Sounds like you had a good time. I'm sorry you didn't get to make the meet-up but I understand how things can go when you have little ones. Hopefully, we'll get to meet you and your family next year.

Vicki

I have to agree with Deanna, farrrr too many parents force their kids into public when they are out of sorts. And if you want to avoid that scene just look for me and stay away. I ALWAYS seem to be right by the squealing kids :BandHead: It's a running joke in our family.
Thanks for the great report.

I am sure you will be fine...you know the wonder of seeing young children seeing the ocean for the first time will be worth it all! That being said ...I think you are brave souls...Terry and I decided not to bring AddyJo this summer...when we left she was only about 3/4 potty trained...by the time we got back...she has officially attained "big girl" status...yay! Can't wait to bring her!

Thanks for the report. With two little ones it must be hard to find the time it takes to write a report. I also admire you for respecting the mood your son was in. It is too bad you had to miss the meet-up but there will be another meet-up and when kids are done they are done! It sounded like you had a great family holiday.
