Well here I go to begin a trip report, after reading others on here mine may seem so dull!
Left Brockville Ont at around 6.30 am today hit lots of raod construction on the 81 which really put us behind schedule.
stopped for breakfast at Friendly's at Cortland NY
as we left ther parking lot DH was turning left to get back on 81 when I yelled out "you are turning the wrong way" after all I am the navigator! so he dutifully switched and turned left only to discover that as construction was going on at the ramp entrance ONY VEHICLES WITH WIDE WIDTH had to go the alternate route! Oh! oh! I thought, this was a good start to the vacation. :boxing: we drove about 10 mins through the town BEHIND all the wide width trucks. Well he did take it with a smile Whew. well no more mistakes for me. But he did say " I knew it was left" He said "didn't you see the sign,(he never saw it) well yes, of course I did but wondered what 'wide width alternate route meant!!! well now I know!
We decided to drive an alternate route this trip, taking 81/64/288/95 We were hoping to get to Richmond but because of construction delays + navgation problems  we only reached Staunton just before the 64 turnoff, and we were tired and hungry. Found a lovely hotel, Microtel Inn I did some bargaing for room rate and got $ off with CAA ....See, I am capable in some ways!
Went to Cracker barrel down the road, it was a packed house! couldn't move in the gift shop. so gave up trying to shop (guess who was pleased about that one?)
Hoping to get an early start tomorrow cannot wait to r4each MB Just checked the weather there, Ahhhhhhh perfect!
I will, write from time to time over the month we are at Sandy Beach Resort, if it doesn't get you folks yawning!

I can't wait to hear about your month in paradise. Wishing you lots of rest, relaxing, beautiful weather, great food and I could go on and on....

Well we made it here to MB. We left Staunton hotel at 7.45 am and drove along 66 to Richmond , what frantastic scenery, the mountain lookouts were breathtaking, it sure was worth driving the extra 50 miles that way.
We stopped for a coffee at Md's on the 95 and met another couple there fron Ontario. Cannot believe all the Canadians down here!
Thanks to someone on this board...Kirk? we tried a different route in instead of the 501 we drove 74 from Lumberton (2.0pm) and took 410 to 701/22 Wow it seemed to take no time, thanks whoever suggested it :notworthy: It did take 30 mins off the time and added benefit was missing that 501, I hate driving down that way, arrived at Sandy Beach at 3.40pm
got settled in then went to Golden Coral...love that place! then p[icked up some groceries at ,,,where else..Wal Mart. Ron also bought his annual Dr Scholls running shoes there . I better start shopping, he is one up on me!
Sitting here near open balcony door, all I can hear is voom, voom of the bikers , didn't realise nhow much we would hear street noise fron angle view room. didn't know we would be here during bike week,.
Weather forcast looks great tomorrow, intend on going for my morning walk early , well...good intentions, wilol let you know if I follow through.
Cannot believe I will be here for a month in paradise.

Glad to read you made it safe- Are you on the north side or south side of Sandy Beach? We're on the south side of Oceans One-one of the end rooms that looks from ocean to Ocean Blvd. If you're looking towards Oceans One I'll wave at ya! Wish I could stay a month.

To be reading this trip report!! I was visiting MB several years ago, during Harley Fall Bike Rally.... It was Wonderful. Granted, it was a tad noisy thru the day/early evening hours. but we had a wonderful time watching it all.....
Anyway, and other than Bike Week,,,, I will really be interested in your doings, places to eat, things to do, etc etc...as next year this time, I will be FINALLY getting my check "in the mail"!!! Surely there has to be trade offs for getting older? A month in MB in October just sounds wonderful to me!! Keep us posted on how things go for you!!

Are you going to the Little River Flea Market tomorrow. That is where we are going right after we check out at 10:00 or maybe we will leave earlier. If you plan to go maybe we will see you there.

we're up high 16th...lovin the view. Enjoy relaxing today and hit those flea markets, yard sales and outlets in the morning. We were over there the other day on the 5th visiting our friend Cynthia that works at Sandy Beach and the Windsurfer. She's in charge of the buses and sets up their breakfasts and all. Maybe I'll see ya on the balcony :o)

Maureen, I am getting sadder by the day just thinking about the beach. I thought I was going to the ocean next weekend but it doesn't seem to be panning out. My husband can't seem to do long road trips but once a year. I told him I would drive and he could lay down. He said he thought more of his life than that.

But I am so happy for you. Thanks for taking the time to post. I can't wait for the next installment.
