Planet Hollywood, Magiquest and now Carlos and Charlie's all are going or gone. Granted none of them are really a huge loss but it looks like the shakeup may be just beginning. Moving Hard Rock? Tearing down the pyramid? removing the clubs from Celebrity Square? They still haven't filled the Tilted Kilt building. It's going to be interesting to see how this all shakes out.

Maybe they could move Hard Rock over next to the kiddie rides and call that Hard Rock Park..

1. I think the economy is catching up to B&B.

2. If you want visitors to continue to come to places like this, you will need to shake it up a bit. Change is good, but can be bad also. Look at the former Pavilion site. Still sits empty to this day, but we all heard of the big plans they had when it was cleared.

I really enjoy walking around BATB, but truthfully I rarely make a purchase when I am there. The restaurant quality has really declined, which also doesn't help. I agree with the above statement about the economy. It still isn't real great for the average person. My raises don't keep up with added expenses. I just can't go and buy stuff just because I want to and BATB stores normally don't have the best bargain in town.

I saw the headline in the Sun News about HardRock Cafe possibly coming down and my first thought was, "So what?"

Then I saw the rest of the rumors about other places closing and/or moving or whatever is going on. My first thought was, "Again, so what?"

MBKY is right about BATB or even Barefoot Landing. Walk through either complex sometime and you'll notice how many people are walking empty handed. It has become more habit than anything to go to these places while in Myrtle Beach. There isn't a single store in ANY shopping complex other than Tanger that I HAVE to go to. I can almost say the same for dining, especially BATB.

The chamber of commerce spends "X" amount of money on advertising and marketing to bring new blood to the area. Guess what? It isn't working. Not many NEW people come to Myrtle Beach. We've already done and seen it all and we've learned what's good and what isn't. The Grand Strand is bigger than it needs to be and thus has outgrown itself.

The economy doesn't help, as was already mentioned. Case in point, there is a 0% chance of us being able to take a vacation next year. I'm losing $1000/month because I'm now married with one kid and another on the way. Why? HEALTH INSURANCE!!!! It seems that the Affordable Care Act is affordable only to those who can't afford it. Yep, thank the Democraps for their efforts.

I'm middle class which means I have the ability to pay taxes that fund government programs I don't qualify for.

I'm not a democrat, but in all fairness the health system has been crap for decades. My insurance premiums have increased every year for the last twenty, while coverage details has declined. Between myself and my employer we pay $800+ a month for health care. I took my daughter the other day for a wrist x-ray. My out of pocket cost was $680. I called the facility about the absurd cost and they pretty much said the cost was justified because the state approved it. I asked them what my cost without any insurance would of been and they said $540. I ended up being punished because I pay for insurance that does me no good unless I have a heart attack or car wreck. We have some Canadian friends on the board and I'm just curious on how they feel about their healthcare system. You can't get the truth out of the media sources because they are bought and paid for just like the politicians.

All types of benefits can have their issues especially when it is government run. Having said that we would never give up our health care system. My husband has had 3 heart attacks, a cardiac arrest and heart failure twice. He also has COPD. He has been hospitalized many times the last 20 years and we have never paid a penny. Aside from that, my sister lives in the US and has for many years. I find it mind boggling when I visit her and they are renewing their insurance every year. Some of their doctors change plans so they either have to change plans or doctors. That would be very upsetting especially if you have issues and a doctor familiar with your issues. She went for a CatScan and had to pay $100 on top of her coverage. She asked if I ever had one and what it cost. I have had one and have no idea what it cost. We never see a bill. We have had universal coverage in Canada for many years. It takes working out a lot of kinks to get it going. Things don't go smoothly overnight as there are growing pains. Our bigger problem can be travel insurance. Because our health care only covers the Canadian cost of things if we had to be hospitalized in the US there is a huge gap as your costs are so high so we need extra coverage. Sometimes hard to get and pricy if you have health issues. Thankfully we were able to get it because we love to come down to the sunny South.

What is the extra cost to the individuals in extra taxes? Is the care comparable? Extra wait times? We don't even get dental and vision coverage where I work. Is that included?

Dental and vision are not covered by the government. Places of employment with a benefit package provide those benefits. Not everyone works where you have a benefit plan. Employment plans also cover drug costs. They are only covered by the government after age 65. I personally have not experienced wait times at the hospital but we live in a small town with a low population. Our local hospital would not be as busy as in a bigger city so I can't speak about that situation.Hospitals triage and in our case my husband has been in an emergency situation on several occasions over the years and he was taken immediately. I have known of people who have waited for service but so has my sister in the US. You have to wait to see a specialist.
Our gas, cigarette and alcohol prices are incredibly high compared to yours. The reason is taxes, much of which goes to health care. The government sets the prices for how much doctors bill. There is a set rate for services. Many doctors have left over the years to work in the US where they can make more money. Some have returned some not.
Nothing is ever as simple as it seems but it is heartbreaking to think that people could lose what they have worked their whole life to gain to pay for health care if they have a major health issue. We never think or worry about this. It just seems so unfair that someone could face financial losses because they were ill. They would have enough to worry about.

Has anyone heard anything since the demolition if anything new is going where Planet Hollywood was? Maybe it'll be a nice parking lot for something. I also read that since Hardrock is moving they are going to have to demolish the pyramid, maybe another parking lot lolz.

I'm okay with the Ale House. It looks like they have an extensive beer menu in both bottle/draft that I could get into. I noticed quite a few beers I have yet to have and they are always rotating.
