Most of the piers in this area are open year round. If you have a question about a particular pier you can find the links here:

I have never fished before and would like to try pier fishing. Can I just go to Garden City Pier and rent a rod and go or do I need to learn something more than drop the line in the water before I go?

I asked the same question a few months ago and the answer here was " Just go and fish". I did just that and enjoyed it. I went to the Garden City pier (closed for the winter ) and the people inside couldn't have been nicer. They helped me get set up with rod and bait and gave some tips to get started. The people fishing on the pier were also very friendly and also offered their advice.
In the end you pretty much just drop the line and fish, really no big deal.
So I can give you the same advice Patrish gave me "Just go and fish".
