Well Gulf stream trips have been cancelled due to high winds, went to the surf today and caught about 15 blues between me and my father in law didnt cast out far and they were hitting. Also I was wondering in the surf there are some fish I have been catching in my net pretty flat and shinny type of fish what are they called and what are they good for if anything at all.

Thanks
Jason

Where were you fishing? I did not even bother to put a line out, what with the high surf and strong currents.

There are tons of baby popano out already, which is early so I think it is going to be a great fishing season and these are probably what you were netting.

Lots of barrel jellies washing up in Garden City yesterday, they don;t sting.

Do you like bluefish, the fight is fun but I can't eat them, too oily, even when you add tomatos and all the other things folks do to pull the oil out of the meat.

Keep having fun

We are in North Myrtle again more blues today, those fish that I was netting are they good for bait at all or nothing. We have been getting a lot of sand fleas we are going to try tonight to get some reds with them. We went out this morning and probably about 5 feet off surf saw a big red going after the sand fleas so hopefully tonight will be a good night.

Yes the baby Pomp's are good bait as well as sand fleas, these are what the fish along the surf are use to eating which is why it works for bait, so many folks use shrimp and such, but it is not a natural bait for the shore line, you can catch fish with any bait, it's just some work better than others.

Gary

You did not tell us of you like to eat blues :)
