This looks like fun! Patrish, is this something you've done before?

Quote:
The Brookgreen Gardens Summer Lights Festival begins on Thursday, May 24, 2018, and runs every Wednesday-Saturday through August 19. Tickets are $20 for adults; $15 for kids (4-12). Members get a $5 discount. You must buy your tickets in advance.

The festival was created by Chinese Craftsmen in the tradition of Chinese Lantern Festivals. The exhibit will be in the Lowcountry Zoo, and feature larger-than-life, illuminated silk lantern sculptures shaped like a variety of native animals, insects and plants.

This event will also include music, food trucks, activities, Chinese paper cutting, and more.

Brookgreen Gardens is located at 1931 Brookgreen Drive (off of US 17 Bypass) in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina.

Has anyone been to this? We're not going because of what may seem to some like a lousy reason.

I am unhappy with the items available around the gift shop area. If you look closely you'll see they are all Made in China. Hello Brookgreen? The Gardens will not accept sculpture made anywhere other than the USA. Why does the same rule not apply to giftable artwork and small sculpture? We are fortunate to have so much local artistic talent available. Take a look at the Waccamaw Arts & Crafts Guild who fill up The Market Common Valor Park as well as Chapin Park several times year under their white tents selling LOCAL art, jewelry, yard decorations, "thank you" type note cards, woven baskets and so much more. (And no, I am affiliated with of the Craft Guild.)

So now we have Chinese Craftsmen? At least they are providing local food concessions!
