We are thinking of taking a quick trip for a long weekend  around the first week of May. Can anyone tell me how is the weather around this time? and are there any bike weeks around that time(not our thing) and would there be anything to do? Thanks for any info.

We love going in May. The last few years we have been going down for Mother's Day and the weather is amazing. The water is too cold to swim but we have definitely lied on the beach. The days are in the 70's or so but the nights get cooler.

Bike week is May 13-22 this year. The Atlantic Beach bike week is always Memorial Day weekend.

Everything is open in May...shows, golf, restaurants. It's a great time to go we think.

Also the 11th Annual Mayfest on Main is going on May 7, 2016. There will be live musical acts, art, craft and food vendors, a community stage and a children's. Address: Main Street North Myrtle Beach

Here's a link to the average temps:

May is usually a great time to be at the beach, just as Emmy said!

Kind of off topic, but I have a love /hate relationship with that time of the year. I love that the weather is getting to the point where you can put on the shorts and flip flops, but then again you are wearing a different wardrobe at night. It's a laundry nightmare. :???: I know some people hate the heat, but I like it when I can throw on the shorts, t-shirts and flip flops and keep them on until bedtime. Nothing like being outside late at night and not having to throw a jacket on.

Myrtle Beach will be great anytime of year though. We went down in April last year and was able to sit on the beach some. A couple of my kids actually got in the ocean, but I wasn't tough enough to go above ankle deep. We really enjoyed the early season because without the crowds it was a whole different experience.

I have to agree that May still requires some layering when you dress. I find that especially true if you go somewhere for dinner (or even eat at home) then you suddenly think about how nice the weather has been all day, and what a great time for a walk on the beach. THAT is when you will wish for the sweatshirt you forgot to bring.

I've heard that the beach stores count on doing a huge turnover every April and May, selling sweatshirts, cover-ups, jackets etc. to the visitors who thought they didn't need these items!

So definitely keep that in mind when you pack, and remember to check the weather highs and lows for the week you choose!
