17F in Myrtle - that's crazy ! We just moved into a townhouse we are renting here in Maryland... unpacked some stuff then flew to San Diego to drop Kelly off for a Semester Abroad. 70s and sunny felt pretty awesome. Stepped off the plane last night in Baltimore to 12 degrees and 15-20mph winds.... along with a car covered in 3" of snow !

Made it back to our "new" home only to find the pipes frozen even though we left the thermostat at 65 !

Too bad San Diego was so expensive, we'd still be there ! Probably the only part of the country above 30.....

Hi all! I'm in Scottsdale Az. We've had a cold snap but we still haven't turned the heat on. I enjoy reading this forum and have learned a lot about Myrtle Beach. I haven't posted a lot but you may remember we purchased a condo, which we rent out and will eventually retire to, at Ocean Keyes in NMB about 3 years ago. We had never vacationed in Myrtle Beach prior to our purchase. Last time I visited was in November and I did so much exploring (for the first time really). I rode a horse on Surfside Beach, ate oysters at the Murrells Inlet roast, went on a riverboat cruise on the intracoastal, went to an art show in Market Common and in Myrtle Beach, went to the art museum in Myrtle Beach, went to the Legends Show and the Christmas Show at the Barefoot Landing, found a great knitting shop called Knit N Purl. I had so much fun exploring and am happy we chose Myrtle Beach but I am having second thoughts about the location we chose. I'm kind of in love with Market Commons due to its proximity to north and south, the airport, and it's walkability.. I'm trying to rationalize our NMB decision due to our walkability to the beach, but most restaurants are a car or golfcart away and no movie theater. So I guess what I'm asking is could someone please tell me to just be happy and quit second guessing our choice. And also does AZdryheat vacation in Myrtle Beach? Curious because I haven't heard of anyone else living so far west and vacationing in Myrtle Beach. Next time I visit I hope there will be a meetup. I would love to meet some friends to make our visits even more enjoyable.
Thanks for allowing me to ramble,
Maleia

Hi, Maleia. Thanks for posting, and I DO remember you.

We've been living in The Market Common area since 2009 - after living for 10 years in Surfside (behind Wicked Stick Golf Course.) We bought one of the model homes located in what was then called Withers Preserve. Now it's called BalMoral, and a lot of new homes are going up around us. We absolutely love everything about living here. So I am obviously not the one who would tell you not to move to this area. But you have a lot to consider, like how is the market for selling your condo, or would you keep the condo and rent it when you make a move. I'll send you a PM.

Hi Maleia,

We started visiting Myrtle Beach in the 1980s when we lived in Indiana. While we sometimes vacationed in other places, MB became our favorite vacation destination. We moved to the Phoenix area in 2005 and went several years without taking a trip to MB because of the distance. In 2011 we decided we needed to go back. We also went back in 2013 and will be in MB again this summer. The long flight makes it an expensive trip, but we've decided it's worth it. (FYI, it's a lot less expensive to fly into Charleston as opposed to flying into Myrtle Beach). My wife and I are retiring in late May at the end of the school year and have considered moving to MB, but at this point that's probably not going to happen......too tough to leave the grandkids behind. So you see, you aren't the only westerner who loves the Grand Strand.
