Normally I don't visit Restaurant.com until it gets close to vacation time. I was just doing some browsing and there are very few restaurants listed in the Myrtle Beach area. What happened? Used to be quite a few listed - some were hard to get too!

I don't know what's going on with restaurant.com. I still get their ads but have not purchased anything from them for a couple years. Even when they have several pages pages filled with various area restaurants, I never find any where I want to eat, even at discounted prices.

I've also found the selections suffer the last few years. I actually didn't even look this year after last years selection was so poor. For a couple of years we used a $50 certificate at big daddies. We usually splurged for a couple of appetizers, but no deserts, and still would spend over $100 there for eight people. It was one of those places where the food was good, but the prices were not cheap enough to draw you in without a coupon. They have not offered that coupon in a couple of years and we haven't returned. I don't know what the profit margins are, but I assume its not worth getting put on the site. If anything comes on there let us know..

The past two years, the only MB area restaurant I purchased was for Crossroads at The House of Blues. It was a $50.00 certificate that I bought on one of their special discounts. With a group of five there was no problem hitting the $100 minimum. Other than that I haven't seen anything that interests me. I check it usually once per month when they run a special but I haven't seen anything new in a while. It was been the same story for their Cincy area restaurants as well.

restaurant.com has these listings for my zip code (29577) today. They actually had more offerings than I thought. Has anyone tried these restaurants? Your opinions?

Martin's Restaurant
Cafe Amalfi
Neal and Pam's Pub
Horst Gasthaus
OBrien's Corner Cafe
Ducati's Pizzeria & Trattoria
Icon Sports and Spirits
Victoria's Country Cookin'
Caribbean Island Grill
Barons Steaks & Spirits
The Watering Hole Saloon & Grill
Crossroads at House of Blues
Calli Baker's Firehouse Bar and Grill
Luvan's Old South Fish Camp Restaurant
Backyard Sports Bar & Grill
2 Goomba's Pizza & Cafe
The Carolina Tavern
Brother Shuckers Fish House
The Office Italian Pub
Fugu Japanese Cuisine
Athena's Bar & Grill

restaurant.com has these listings for Murrells Inlet (29576) What? No seafood?

The Carolina Tavern
Bellagio's Cafe and Grill
The Watering Hole Saloon & Grill
Icon Sports and Spirits

I think you can do as well or better with a google search for Myrtle Beach restaurant coupons, or Myrtle Beach coupons.

I used a Restaurant.com certificate for the first time recently. My selection at home has always been so poor and I never thought about using them on vacation. Anyways I was always told using Restaurant.com was the cheapest form of advertising possible. That the restaurants will come and go from the selection. That the restaurants will wise up with their offerings and not be so generous with it.

I got the restaurant.com certificate for free. Turned it into a $10 gift-certificate. I only had to buy $15 worth of food.

I know I said this a few years ago, that restaurant.com and others of the same business model would not last due to participation from businesses.

As the business owner I am giving you a $50 credit for food, that they sell for $25, they have the $25 and will pay me $12.50 when and if you redeem the coupon.

You will also have noticed that the minimum check purchase has gone up in the last 2 years to use these certs. Most places a couple can not take advantage due to the minimums.

Let's use Athena's as an example:

So I buy the $15 for $6 (Athena gets $3 7 days after I redeem cert)

According to the fine print I have to spend a minimum of $30

So we order the 2 most expensive menu items which is fish, shrimp and fries at $10 each so there's $20 and I have $10 still to spend, remember most of these offers exclude drinks, it is for food only.

Hmm, well lets's get an App and the most expensive one is wings or shrimp for $7 each well we already have shrimp so wings it is, oh wait we stiull need to spend $3 more dollars, ok a garden salad is $3, good now, except I have more food than we wanted :)

Patrish, it is amazing to see how many restaurants are discounting right now, during the height of the season, this tells you there is a problem with the economy.

As to your question:

Martin's Restaurant Hotel, never been
Cafe Amalfi At the Hilton, overpriced for what it is
Neal and Pam's Pub local place good
Horst Gasthaus Have not been in years, but was good
OBrien's Corner Cafe local place
Ducati's Pizzeria & Trattoria never been due to too many people warned me not to
Icon Sports and Spirits local and good food
Victoria's Country Cookin' have not been in years but was always good locals place
Caribbean Island Grill don't know it
Barons Steaks & Spirits Good
The Watering Hole Saloon & Grill new place, not been
Crossroads at House of Blues never been, tourist place
Calli Baker's Firehouse Bar and Grill good
Luvan's Old South Fish Camp Restaurant (the old place was great) too far out in Conway and inspections always bad
Backyard Sports Bar & Grill not been since it was Jimmigans'
2 Goomba's Pizza & Cafe I only had pizza and it was good
The Carolina Tavern not been
Brother Shuckers Fish House good
The Office Italian Pub good
Fugu Japanese Cuisine not been
Athena's Bar & Grill good she does a 2 sandwich and drinks special for $12

Checked availability today (9/1) and found California Dreaming at Surfside is listed offering $10 certificates off of $20 purchase.

I missed the offer for California Dreaming. THAT is one I wold have purchased! Looked over the listings just now, and don't see anything I'm interested in. (personal opinion)

Lou, there's a slew of places where locals eat in this string:
