We live in New York and unfortunately southern cuisine items are far and few to find! So, when we head south it is mandated we bring back White Lily Flour (you can not buy it any further north than Va.), hushpuppy mix, and thick slab bacon from Food Lion! Also, as weird as it seems :tongue3: but Totally Random Red Wine from California is also a staple we bring back. Can not find it anywhere locally here in NY .
Are there any specialty items you "must" bring home with you? Is there something you can't buy where you live that is part of the local cuisine in Carolina? Would love t know :hello:

Usually 6-8 cases of Cheerwine for Barb and the kids and a couple of bottles of BBQ sauce from Sticky Fingers.

I used to bring home salt & vinegar popcorn from Pop N Stuff, but they closed up.

None of you take home stone ground grits so you can make true South Carolina Shrimp & Grits on those cold winter nights uo North?

(Anyone mentioning instant grits will be immediately banned from participation on this board.) :clown:

SunDrop! We can finally buy it here in MI, but it's bottled in Texas and not in NC -- the NC stuff is WAY better tasting!

Taffy from Wee R Sweets and if we make it to Callahan's, I like to get a slice of their key lime fudge - cannot find key lime fudge anywhere up this way.

I have to admit, I still haven't tried grits yet.

A friend who lives in North Augusta did send me instant grits 1 year so I could try them. But I never did.

I hope you don't ban me for having a box.

I can't say that I buy anything considered "local". However, this year, I'll be experimenting with New South Brewing's offering and hoping to bring home at least a six pack.

KY girl here so pretty much what they have down south we can get here ... And Patrish you will be proud ... Grits are in my cabinet .. We mainly eat them in the colder months with butter and sugar .. But our favorite when in MB is shrimp and grits!!! I've never tried making them myself..

One thing I plan to bring back this year is a cook book from sea captains house.. I say it every year but I'm gonna too this year!!

We usually stop at abbotts in Spartanburg and get peaches and peach butter to last throughout the winter!!

I recall Barb tried grits last year and she described them as being like Cream of Wheat.
I passed as I'm not adventurous for new things.
Maybe this year.
When in Rome, eh?
