...that you miss and think about Myrtle Beach when you are far away.

It especially hits me at a certain time of year, the few weeks just before we come down. It's different for everyone, but my time is late March, yes, now!

They just hit me. I could be teaching at school, driving, eating breakfast, exercising...whatever....and BAM!...right up side the head I get a thought about walking into a WINGS store for some extra suntan lotion. I can even smell the place!

What other little things do I get hit with out of the blue?

- sitting outside of the general store at Barefoot Landing....at dusk....with a glass bottle Coke and a Chick-O-Stick.

- walking into a Food Lion, to get the food supplies for the week!

- seeing the front of The Gay Dolphin store.

- the smell of walking out onto the beach, around 5am, with only a dozen others nearby, waiting for the sun to come up.

- the sound of TV33 - and those SAME commercials, over, and over, and over. (I found a link, where you can watch both TV33 and Beach TV from here! - I only watch them about this time of year, not all year long!)

- The taste of peanuts, from a River City Café.

- The "PUFF" of the dragon rising out of the castle at the miniature golf course at BATB.

- The taste of a Krispy Cream donut. Yes, I can find them up here, but they taste the best sitting on a balcony looking over the beach!

- the sound of an Easter sunrise service, on the beach, from my balcony.

- the sight of an airplane, carrying a banner behind, advertising .99cent towels and a free shark's tooth!

Those are just a few that have popped into my head this week!

What are yours?

I can relate to pretty much everyone of those but have never been there during Easter... I so love MB and would love to live there but then I think about it and wonder would I still have the same feeling.... ya probably!!!

To add to the list

Seeing the sparkys signs as we are driving in
The visitors centers
The drive in on 501 and the use to be traffic that occurred before we started coming in Sept.
The first sight and smell of the ocean
Peaches on the corner

But yes .. I'm a daydreamer and think about the drive a lot and the time there and how I hate leaving .. usually glad to be home but still daydreams of MB lol

Every time I hear Bob Marley, I can envision a spot on kings highway that I've heard whatever song is paying.

Those little white slips of paper from the SC welcome center that has the directions to the beach! (I must have a dozen in my glove box, but we still stop every time for one and new brochures!)

The sparkly SC roads! MI roads just don't sparkle in the sunshine like that.

The fruit stands along side the road on the way in - Po' boys and all the bad spellings...and wondering just what the heck FROG jam is! (I had to stop at one just outside of Darlington last time - it's awesome! Fig, raspberry, orange and ginger)

Driving down Ocean Blvd with the windows down and the beach music on and quoting lines from "Shag"

That "ahhh" moment when you've carried all your stuff up to the condo, then take a minute to open the balcony door and step outside...and you know you've arrived!

Booting up the laptop to check out the UCP website to order that first night's pizza in...and you hear the jingle..."the perfect pizza picky people love"

Naps on the balcony listening to the ocean and the people being happy

Ditto the peanuts at RCC -- that's my favorite thing there, I could sit at a picnic table at the 72nd ave one with those peanuts and a Grape Ape all day!

And ditto the getting down to the beach at sunrise to watch and shell, with just a few people around. I'm the only one of my group that gets up to watch the sun and those are my special moments all to myself, I just love that! And everyone is always so friendly and says good morning.

Now this is my kinda thread.. My longing for MB has been to the point of obsessive lately. If the temps had not been so cold we probably would have driven over for a long weekend. You can't beat rates like $65 a night. However, I am not a cold natured beach girl so I am holding out until July and dreaming about:

- Getting in the car and hitting the road makes it official. Also, sharing all those beach stories on the way. Best feeling ever.
- The first time I feel the ocean breeze, smell the salty air and the sand between my toes.
- Seeing that first ocean front high rise. Makes my heart leap
- Seeing the ocean for the first time. I always give thanks that I am fortunate enough to return
- Getting that first beach ice cream. Ice cream always taste better at the beach.
- Eating so much you think you might pop
- Getting that scalp burn that feels like fire when you take a shower.
- That first morning walk on the beach is like taking a little walk in heaven.

I could go on and on....

I saw a van today with a cargo carrier on top and my first thought was wondering if those people are heading to MB? I know that travel season has started when you start seeing those things back on the top of vehicles.

I'm like you with the Krispy Kreme donuts. I was in Lexington, KY. the other day and saw one of those "hot donuts" signs at a KK and never even gave it a thought to stop and buy some. It's weird how they are one of our staple foods when at the beach, but never buy them at home.

I love this thread!!

One thing that specifically gets me feeling like we're heading for the beach is a nice sunny day. Looking out my work window (upper floor) and seeing the airplanes go by. Reminds me of going to the beach!

- the excitement of being in the airport, knowing we're on our way!
- seeing the golf courses, intercoastal waterway, ocean and high rises from the plane.
- first step out of the MB airport and feeling/smelling the warm ocean air!!!
- first sight of the ocean from the car and balcony
-food lion prepping for the week
-first feeling of the sand and water between your toes
-cruising ocean blvd with the windows down, listening to music. I love hearing people all over having fun and playing in water, hearing all the splashing and laughter
-sunrises!
-first trip to broadway at the beach.

I could go on forever :)

We soooo look forward to just sitting on our balcony and looking at the ocean. Can't get enough of it.

The sunrises in sept were amazing!!

This is a great thread! Here are a few of the things I miss:
-First arriving to MB and seeing all the hotels and shops.
-My feet hitting the sand for the first time.
-The planes with advertisements flying by.
-My early morning walks on the beach.
-The taste of a margaritaville margarita.
-Watching my daughter play in the ocean.
- The smell of sunscreen.

Maybe we should print this list out to refer back to when we're feeling stressed!

here are some more:

- seeing palm trees again as we get closer to the beach
- watching the sun rise over the ocean
- spotting dolphins in the water
- seeing the familiar souvenir shops that have been there "forever"

This thread gives me chills! :ac15[1]:
- The butterflies in my stomach the morning we leave because I am so excited
- Crossing the huge bridge on 17 right before entering Cherry Grove
- Collecting coupon books after checking in at Elliott Realty
- That first day trip to Boulineaus Grocery
- Golden Griddle Pancake House
- Nighttime at Barefoot Landing
- Chair down by the ocean with the waves slowly covering my feet
- Sitting on the balcony as the sound of seagulls and waves crashing lure you into a deep sleep
- Checking out all of the houses/condos we have stayed at to see what has changed.
- My daughter telling me how much she loves me for taking her to the beach
I could go on forever!
