I have a dash cam and recorded someone cutting me off tonight. What was she thinking? How did she not see me? I was following the taxi. My eldest son was following me and my youngest son was behind him. There was lots of traffic. We met at a restaurant for dinner and were coming back to our place for a visit. I get this daily in my bus, but in my car?

Edit:
My son also has a dashcam and he sent me his.

I'm just happy your reflexes and brakes were working.

We see all kinds of crazy driving like this in MB. Almost every day!

I showed this to Wally. He wants to know which dash cam you have. (It did a great job!)

Interesting: I'm sitting here reviewing dashcam footage I brought in to review (of a woman falling off her bicycle yesterday afternoon) just now - and happened to open and read this post.

I have dash cams on all vehicles - our Journey, the Harley, and even the golf cart. It's amazing what they capture. Some folks ask me why I have them. I reply that, if anything ever happens like a collision or other incident, there won't be any of the "other person making a false claim as to what happened" nonsense. I can just put my memory card into a responding police car's laptop to make a copy of the video, and still have the original footage for my own insurance company, attorney, etc...

Dashcams

I did a lot of researching of dashcams before I made my purchases. I got a lot of info from Google searches but this site had a lot of influence on my decisions. http://dashcamtalk.com/

There was a "DVR007" model. No longer available. It's now a 027 or 207. Niether are as good as the original 007. The 007 is the cam my son has and you'll see the picture is brighter and a little clearer.

I have the GS9000 Pro GPS 1080P. It has GPS that when run through a program on your computer, it will show on a google map where you were and what speed you were doing, although I have that turned off.

I bought all my cams on eBay from a retailer in China. Their store name is estore009. They are good with returns and warranty claims as I did have a bad unit and had to get it replaced.

The cam turns on and off automatically with the car so you just forget that it's there but when something like this happens, it's nice to step back and take another look at it. I knew I had stopped in time and avoided her but looking at my sons video, I realize I was on my brakes the second she started to roll forward. I actually had to look at it a couple of time to see that. It reassures me that I'm not hesitating and reacting quickly.

As Mike said, if I was involved in a collision, I have facts and video to show what happened. Not someones story trying to cover their butt. And it will be the nail in the coffin for an insurance claim.

We have cams in our buses at work. Not forward facing but 3 or 4 that point out the right side windows. They help sometimes to clear things up. I was in a collision with my bus where a hotels security camera caught both vehicles positions seconds before impact. The Officer decided that the other driver did cut me off at a slow speed that resulted in me rear ending him. His fault. That video is below. You'll have to watch it a couple of times to see the black Ford Edge leave the driveway and instantly see my bus stop.

Cameras are everywhere and I believe a car is a good place for them.

And finally, this a is a video of me getting cut off while driving to Myrtle Beach last year - Oct 13 2013

Interesting, are these loop back after so much time?
So if you want to save something you have to shut the cam off.

I have a 32GB memory card so it's good for about a weeks worth of recording. Just have to take the card out and save the videos I want to keep. The videos are recorded into 5/10/15 minute segments depending on the cam. When the card gets full, it starts to re record over the oldest files.
