It's amazing how many of us are fans of Dorothea Benton Franks. I have read most of her books and have really enjoyed them. I always can relate to a book better when it takes place somewhere I have lived or visited. I just recently discovered Mary Kay Andrews and her books are definitely a fun read. Sue Grafton has always been one of my favorite writers. I do not read scarey books and when I think of Stephen King I think of horror for some reason. I am definitely old school when it comes to books, no kindle or downloading books for me just the real stuff. This is my one year anniversary of getting a IPhone and I am addicted to it. First thing I pick up in the morning and last thing I put down at night. No book reading on it though.

I thought the same thing about my Kindle. I was one of the last of my friends to buy one. I thought I would always like the feel of a book in my hand. However, if mine tore up today I would be on Amazon ordering another. I like the easy access to new books, I can take it with me where ever I go and my little light doesn't keep anyone awake. Honestly, one of my favorite things in life.

Janet Evanovich Wicked Appetite or Wicked Business... I've started WA will probably have it finished before we leave .. If I get to stay with it .. so much going on and to do... Also, because of my students, I've promised I would read The Hunger Games before school starts back. So going to bring a few with me and see if I get any reading done.

I loved the Twilight books... the other night I finally got to watch Breaking Dawn. Watched a clip of part 2 this morning and can't believe that is all. My daughter said "yah, all of Harry Potter and now all of Twilight".... I never could get into Harry Potter, even though the kids at school begged me to read them. If Janet Evanovich stops her Stephanie series I don't know what I'll do. What are the Dorothea Benton Frank books about?? (Never mind that statement just read a bio on them) What do you all suggest as a first of hers?

Any of her books are really great reading. I read her books every summer; they never get old. Why don't you read them in the order they were written because some are sequels. Here is a list from the most recent back. I would start with Sullivan's Island and move forward!

Folly Beach
Lowcountry Summer
Return to Sullivans Island
Bulls Island
The Land of Mango Sunsets
The Christmas Pearl
Full of Grace
Pawley's Island
Isle of Palms
Shem Creek
Plantation
Sullivan's Island

I always visit the book stall in the Hudson Market, $1 plus tax for paperbacks, she has a big choice and will even give you some credit if you return books to her. Michael Connelly and John Sanford (Prey novels,) are my beach reading, at home I rarely read a book a month, at the beach it is one a week at least.

Sooo...did noone read it or does noone want to admit to reading it????? Fifty Shades of Grey. Yes, I read them, finished all 3 in 4 days...the you know what scenes get so old that you can skip over them if they bother you. My mom hates that kind of stuff and she enjoyed the books too. I don't usually read alot because I hate putting a book down once I have started it and these were all around 500 pages each. They are not the most clever books and some of the writing is redundant and immature, but it had enough of a story to make me want to keep reading. Looking for something else to pick up for the rest of summer, will try some of your suggestions!!

Just finished Dorothea's new one "Porch Lights!" It was really good. I had to read it in two weeks because it's brand new...so I got "Retun to Sullivan Island" and "Isle of Palms" for the beach next week. I read them both before but they are such classic beach reads I can't help myself  Can't wait!!

Hey Emmy, I recently got a Sony eReader (gift from son & daughter-in-law) and remembered this thread so came here to see what everyone recommended. I saw your suggestion about Dorothea Benton Frank's books so decided I would do as you suggested and start from the beginning. I printed out the list and then I downloaded Sullivan's Island and Plantation and am saving them for our trip in September. I must admit, I couldn't stand it so I did do a little reading just so I could try out my new toy :hysterical: and I must say, I loved what I have read so far!!!! :hello: Can't wait to read them in Myrtle Beach! :sunny: But first, I've got to finish a hard-copy book I borrowed from my daughter-in-law. (I want to read my new toy :ohnoes: ) Thanks for the suggestions!!!

Karen,
You will just love your new toy. I have had a Kindle since shortly after they came out and love it. I find it so much easier on the eyes to read, especially when outdoors, and when you are a beach nut like most people on the board, you spend a lot of time outdoors. Enjoy.

Thanks, Christine! So far I do love it! I do like the fact that I can increase the font size for these old eyes! I'll be reading on the balcony, but don't think I'd take it down to the beach. Can't wait to get there and try it out!
