As we were pulling into Myrtle Beach on Hwy 501 Doug spots Sam Snead's restaurant. Of course I had no idea who Sam Snead was so I received my first "Golf" lesson for the week. Sam Snead was a top professional golfer for over four decades and his restaurants are filled with tons of his memorabilia. So to make my sweet husband happy we enjoyed our first vacation meal at Sam Sneads. It was obvious this restaurant get's lots of golfers. It is close to several popular courses and convenient for golfers in that they do not have to travel very far if they are staying at their golf resort. I know that my husband had this in mind for future golf trips.

Right above our table was the first $1,000 bill Sam ever made. I was shocked there was a $1,000 bill hanging on the wall. Of course the curiosity got the best of me and I had to see if the frame was attached to the wall. It was

Doug will rarely share a meal with me, but on this occasion he was willing. We both started off with a salad

Salads were fresh and dressings were homemade. I am a mean salad critic and these were pretty good. They are hard to see, but the pine nuts were a great addition to the salad. Wished there had been some cheese, but still a good salad.

I didn't mention that our waiter was excellent. Top notch. He explained how Sam Snead's was one of only three restaurants on the Grand Strand to use an Oak Grill while cooking their steaks.

Steak was exceptional. As were the red skinned mashed potato's

Also, the four cheese mac & cheese was to die for.

I always like to eat at a restaurant more than once before I go over the top, but I will have to say Sam Snead's was very good and we would return.

Deanna, thanks for the review and photos. The salad looks really good as well as the other items. We'll have to give it a try,

The Sun News has some Sam Sneed coupons - no expiration dates, but who knows how long that will last.

Ron, it closed without any fanfare then opened in the Carolina Forest area in its new incarnation.

You old sea dog, you really need to get back here and see the changes. I miss you! :love1:

We're very proud of Mr. Sam Snead here in West Virginia. And his restaurant at the Greenbrier is quite famous. Glad there is a new one on the Grand Strand.

Ron, just to clarify, the new location in Carolina Forest is not the same
owners as what use to be on Restaurant Row.

It's kind of like TPC Golf Courses, you pay them a yearly fee to use the name.
