I've watched this happen to restaurant after restaurant. They are good for 2-3 years and progressively get worse until they eventually just call it quits all together. Last example was a childhood favorite of the NASCAR Cafe, now its a wax museum

We went to Liberty over the winter and agree that it was just not good. We used to eat in the bar all the time for happy hour, but won't return.

What is funny is Liberty Tap Room, owned by the same people, is excellent! It has been open for at least six or seven years and we have not had a bad meal there yet. This is close to our house, so it is our local go to place as well.

With all this negative attention Libery has gotten and the horrible experience last year I may just avoid going here for happy hour lol

I was a little anxious after some of the recent negative comments, but Lorraine wanted steak, so we went to Liberty tonight while at Broadway at the Beach. We have always loved this place and tonight it was as good as ever. The food and service were both outstanding. I had the 14 oz. Center cut ribeye and I loved it!

Going back in time, did anyone stop here at all in 2015? We had planned to go just for HH but ditched the idea and hit up Gordon Bierch instead. I was just wondering if the same problems were still going on as they were in the past when this thread started.

I have been quite a few times, even though GB's is closer, I like the pricing at Liberty for happy hour, (not as good as years back but reasonable) was just there Sunday for happy hour, had Buffalo Shrimp and Fried Pickles then went to dinner at Dirty Don's.

Although its not a brewery, they will have some craft beer competition with the new American Tap House going in Celebrity Square.

Well, Liberty redeemed itself this year!!! :cheerleader: We were going to eat in the beer garden for happy hour but the patio was full of smokers so we decided to head inside. Walked right in, no wait, at 6:00pm, hmmmm. Never done that before. Our waitress was awesome. I ordered the salmon and farrow salad (wasn't sure what that was, but the waitress said it was very popular) hubby got a burger, one kid got a grilled cheese and the other munchkin ordered the pretzels and cheese. Now, I'm not a foodie per say, but I can appreciate a great plate of food. If I were the type, I would have taken a picture of my plate when it came out. It truly was the prettiest plate of food I have ever seen. The farrow salad was a type of broccoli slaw, with slivered almonds, shaved brussel sprouts (which I usually detest) and a number of other things mixed in. The salmon was set upon this nest of deliciousness and it was topped with a swirl of roasted red pepper sauce. OMG...It was absolutely divine. Heavenly even. Hubby loved his burger, and the kids were happy too. I am so happy to have had a such a great experience here again, we have always loved this place but the past few years have been subpar. For us, its just not a beach trip with out a stop here. Hubby and I have spent many hours in the beer garden before and after kids, and it's just a special place for us.

I'm happy to hear this! You meal sounds wonderful!

It's not uncommon to hear bad reviews during tourist season simply because the restaurants are bound to have off-nights. I'm usually ready to give them another chance, but if the 2nd experience is as bad as the first I'll find somewhere else to spend my money...unless some of the locals tell me it's safe to go back.

We gave Liberty a try again this year. We had a party of 8 and were seated right away, inside, pretty much in the middle of the restaurant. After 20 minutes, we tracked down a manager because no one had even acknowledged we were there. Several servers kept walking past us, none of them would even make eye contact. Manager said they had pushed 2 tables from different sections together and I guess they just didn't want to decide who would take us. He offered to get us some appetizers on the house for our wait and sent a waiter over. We got the charcuterie board and the loaded Texas fries. Both were fantastic. We got drinks in reasonable time once the waiter came over. Then, again, we waited, and waited, and waited some more. An hour after we had finished the appetizers, we went looking for a manager again. There was some excuse about 2 large groups ahead of us (actually it was one huge, obnoxious group who had been there and had their drinks before we were even seated). Essentially, we figure they didn't put our check in. Finally got our food, server apologized profusely. He offered free desserts which the kids jumped on. They got 2 pieces of cheesecake, one with fruit topping, one without, to share. He brought it out and youngest takes a bite and makes a weird face. He says, mom, I think it's bad. This kid loves cheesecake too. So I take a bite and it was key lime pie. Other kid takes a bite of the one with fruit topping, yep it's key lime pie too. At this point all we could do was laugh. Despite the ridiculous wait, the food we got (other than dessert) was really good. The appetizers were spectacular. After all that I just ordered the shecrab soup, it was delicious. Others got a steak, hamburger, a buffalo chicken wrap, the kids got the pretzels and cheese and mozeralla sticks, and a kids mac and cheese. The food was delicious. The wait was ridiculous. I applaud the manager for trying to make it right. But even with the free stuff, we still spent well over $150 for all 8 of us. And we tipped our waiter probably more than he deserved simply because he did try and make things good. As much as we have enjoyed Liberty in the past, there have been enough hiccups that we will probably look elsewhere, especially if we have a bigger party. It's a shame too, because the food was good. I don't know if the staff are new, or maybe it was just a bad night.

I used to love this place but I'm glad we started going elsewhere. We've had the same issues in the past, their beer is mostly yucky, and the food off and on.

Peanut, I think you should send this review to the management. (Call to make sure you have the correct name.) It's one of the most balanced reviews I've read. You hit the highs and lows precisely.

July is the worst month for bad restaurant reviews because of the huge number of tourists. If even one waiter calls in sick it can throw the entire restaurant off-balance. It sounds like in your case they had more people thn the staff could properly handle.

Thanks for letting us know about your experience. Well done!

We didn't even stop at Liberty at all this year. Hopefully the fact that Grumpy Monk opened and can get top crafties, Liberty will realize they can't just make garbage beers with their terrible service. Maybe we'll go back next year.
